No, the problem isn't that he left things out that were in the novel. The problem is that he put approximately an hour of new stuff in that was never in the books and contradicted Tolkien's vision. That hour of screen time would have been better spent showing us, for example, the Scouring of the Shire, which to Tolkien purists is really the crux of the novel. It's possible to abridge a story without bastardizing the plot.

Remain faithful to the plot and we have a 15 hour trilogy :)

Good point, but I think Halo will turn out good. :)

Heh, I had read this "someone who's as committed to the Halo universe as Peter Jackson was to Tolkien's Middle-Earth" thing before. Didn't think they'd actually be taking Peter Jackson, hehe!:P

I Reckon we should all go on Halo 2 and have consecutive mano-a-mano fights 'gainst Jackson... If he beats the entire JA.. then he can direct Halo. :P

If the article is being honest, at least Jackson is playing through all of Halo. :)

There have been a number of great games based on movies.

There has never been a great, good or even mediocre movie based on a game.

With LOTR to his credit, I'm inclined to give Jackson the benefit of the doubt, but when I saw the headline my first thought was "How the mighty have fallen."

Of course, one thing I admire about Jackson is how he thumbs his nose at the elite establishment. Remember the awful "snowboarding" scene in The Two Towers? Yes, it made me cringe too, but I later read that Jackson's motivation was to show that he could stick a cheesy pop culture reference in the movie and still have the film taken seriously. I still didn't like it, but I understand where he was coming from.

The Halo movie kind of has the same ring to it. Why is one of the greatest movie directors ever making an installment of one of the crappiest movie genres ever? Well, he likes Halo, and by God he's Peter Jackson so he can make a movie about pretty much whatever he likes, and screw the elitist snobs who say he can't. I deeply respect the will to live life on one's own terms. Plus, maybe he'll surprise me, and it will actually be good.

There was a lot of speculation on whether or not this would happen. Well, here you go. Lets hope it isn't another Tomb Raider.

(If your wondering what I meant by that I meant that Tomb Raider was a good film, but resembled very little of the game... But Chris Barry made it all better lol)
