It seems to me there are three significant factors. Yes, because it's denser there's more resistance to your forward motion. But also because it's denser you get more "thrust" when you propel yourself forward. And as has been pointed out you float better.

yeah but what most people think is that because it IS denser (thicker) then it would be alot harder
