Not really, but I don't get to meet any Marines around here anyway. All the ones I know are long time friends that dun care too much. Besides, I got almost 300 hours of flight time with about 75 of that being with NVGs. Small price to pay for being in the National Guard and a little crap from some Marines. ;)

U.S. Marines - '88 to '92. Helicopter mechanic on CH-46s (think older, smaller brother of Chinook). Home based in Hawaii, but hung out in Okinawa and the Philippines for a year during Desert Storm.

U.S. Army National Guard - '98 to '02. Helicopter crew chief (aircrew) on UH-60s. Did some time at NTC at Ft. Irwin as white cell (whew!), JRTC at Ft. Polk as white cell (whew!), and Guatemala for medevac duty for the engineers rebuilding infrastructure in the jungle.

The Marines was cool and flying in the Army was cool. However, the U.S. Army leaves a little to be desired when compared along side the Marines IMHO. If you haven't been in both, you might not have the same perspective. ;)

I anxiously await the flames. :P

I had 6 wks of joint exercises with Aussy Army, fun group. After the FTX we were all partyin' and we ran this club out of beer, plenty of other booze, when that happened all the Aussy's took their pants off in protest. Good lord that was comedy, watching the MP's tryin to get them M8's back in their trousers.

shoot man, I just reread yer post. The above training was At Ft. Polk, was called JRTC, joint readiness training center. We had a company of Australian Infantry attached to our battalion, that would have been late summer, august for southern hemis folk, 94' though. Sounds like we've chewed some of the same dirt.

ahhh good times.

Liked the M16 for acuracy and it's light weight good for jungle, but can't go past the old L1A1 SLR for stopping power, now use the F88 styer which is ok I think they're looking at M4's to replace them soon or something similar. ;)

I'm going to serve for the first time next year, I think, but I'm going to this "session" thing next Tuesday where I will be deemed fit/unfit to serve. :D Also, I can state where I want to serve. I'll probably try to get into the engineering squadron. :)

Currently serving in the Royal Navy. As all new ratings do, I completed my Phase One training at HMS Raleigh, and will soon do a course at the Royal Navy submarine school to become a weapons technician in the submarine service.
