Now, regarding the Interview the Jack. This guy is a bit off. His overall goal, is so normal and sensical at one moment, then it like some magician snaps his fingers and he goes on a rant that make little to no sense. This is his 1st assertion: "I want to abolish the ESRB, and reform the exact same group, with people from OUTSIDE the gaming industry. Then I want their laws enforced by law" Ok, (I think) we all agree games should have ratings and those ratings should be enforced. I don't agree that the ESRB needs to be abolished. the MPAA has been rating movies forever. They literally put X number of people in a room to screen the movie, and those people must come to an agreement on the rating. At least the ESRB has criteria for their ratings. The real reason Jack wants the ESRB abolished is because he wants his ratings put into place. Now we don't know what those ratings are but he even says the ESRB is lying about the ratings and being to lenient. So he wants something much stricter. He core beliefs are actually not poor, or poorly intented (please note: what he says he core beliefs about gaming are) but when you through out lines like: "Bully is a murder simulator that takes place in a school, that is wrong!" Sorry please atleast do some research, the game is still in RP (rating pending) but I don't see why Rockstar has reason to lie about the what they hope the rating of the game will be. Also one of his last comments: "I want to destroy Rockstar" I'm sorry that just makes him seem so insincere, like he no longer cares about making sure children are playing only the games they should, he really just has a chip on his shoulder for this one gaming company. theres worse things out there in the world that kids are attracted to. Yea taking a highly explicit Game off the shelves of big distributors will make it less buyable. But it will only increase in worth i mean when you get older do you be the only guy that didnt have San Andreas? Idk about you guys but that game was highly addicting my parents played it for a couple weeks. My point being, they think there putting there foot down finally but really there just sinking into quick sand if you catch my drift. Where theres light theres dark. You cant stop whats there when you stop it. The rating for GTA in the US was M which is 17, because of the "dirty filthy sex" they included with all the bloody violence, they had to make it adults only which jumped it up to 18. Wow would you look at that difference. I still blame rockstar games for being stupid for not taking out that content from the game even if it wasn't "accessible" The video game community will regularly mod/hack/alter games without any care, did they actually think it wouldn't be found. Okay, my bad obviously, couldn't resist. Now to be at least slightly more serious. To be fair, he has a point trying to persuade game companies into *not* hiding content, especially if it exceeds the certificate issued to the game. But really I can't see how blame can be shifted to a game in almost any case. He says something around the 9-10minute mark about how children who play violent video games have developed 'brain damage', and structural change that mimics that of children who tend to be more violent. I think I'll just pick out a few interesting quotes now, before I go picking him apart like my cat over a dead bird. ...'Like any technology it can be used for good or evil.' 'The notion that there are no studies that directly prove a link between violent entertainment and teen violence is just nonsense.' 'In fact I got 5000 emails in one day by one guy threatening to kill me... ...A guy threatening to kill me in the context of hey video games haven't affected me.' 'I'd love for America to go to the uk system, where they have a certificate for games..' (Uk 2 win! I didn't actually know America didn't have this system) I'll listen to the rest of this later...
