Does anyone know of any programs where you can separate the vocal tracks from the music on mp3s? Kinda like a karaoke version of the song. So I basically just want the music without the singing.

Im not even sure if there is such thing besides the karaoke way, but I figured id ask.

Thanks for any info if you have it! :D

if you can find the entire song in midi (which is quite possible) it usually already excludes the lyrics. you run that through a program like soundforge or fruity loops to add the right sound to the midi tracks. its alot of work for one song but if this is something you really want to do then this is an option.

drawbacks: you have to really know how to work with midi files to get them to sound remotely close to the originals. takes a pretty long time to work them out.

ps: with mp3...you could try a "wave" editor that shows the song in wave signals and isolate the vocal signal and cancel it. this is EXTREMELY HARD and takes more time than doing the midi but an option just the same.

What Tarpman said, and you would be using Audition or ProTools. Definatly not worth the effort. :(

Get in touch with Jaiko... he spends way too much time on sound editing and stuff. He could prolly find the song your trying to fiddle with himself and then modify that one! :P

actually its possible to get that voice off your tracks! though most of times you will lose a bit of music, but with the right settings and after some testing you can achieve some quite good results :)
i did that quite some time ago with software called... cool edit pro 2001

MP3 files aren't stored in tracks. When the song is created, it is *recorded* as multitrack, yes, but then it is merged into a single-track, two-channel (left and right, i.e. stereo) WAV file before being recorded to CD, converted to MP3, etc.

Like Orion said, if the song is recorded with the vocals all on one channel and the music all on the other channel, then you can separate the channels. This, however, is very rare - mainly because it sounds kind of weird to have nothing but words in one speaker and nothing but instrumentals in the other. :P

To the best of my knowledge there is no automated process for separating mixed instruments and vocals. It is possible to do it by hand with sound editing software by manually zeroing out all the frequencies that the voice covers, but I doubt that's worth the effort.

They only way would be to make sure the audio is on the left channel and music on the right channel... or the other way around, and you would still probably need to convert the mp3 back to a WAV file..There are some porgrams that *try* to do it but its not at all practical..

I'm not positive on this, but I'm pretty sure you can't isolate certain tracks within an MP3 without some sort of hardware mixer such as one found in recording studios. A smaller one of course. Otherwise, you'll probably need to find the instrumental versions of the MP3s you wish to use.
