Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin Solo *spoilers* | |
Alex Dkana - Staff |
Perhaps the best known of the new jedi order, the three children of Han Solo and Leia organa Solo, have become great characters in their own right; howeveras some people do not read the books or cannot get hold of them easily they may not know much about these interesting characters. So i thought i'd make this post, i'll dig up some links about all three later, and write my own thoughts, feel free to comment and discuss for example do you have a favourite? ouch this is gonna be a long post Links Jaina Solo fansite Anakin Solo wikipedia article Jaina Solo Wikipedia article Jacen Solo databank entry Anakin Solo databank entry Jacen Solo wikipedia article Jacen Solo fansite Anakin Solo fansite New Jedi Order Wikipedia listing i'll add more later i'll add these later: Jacen Twins with Jaina, they were Han and Leia's first born children, they did not have a stable childhood, with kidnapping attempts and other problems, they were also both extremely gifted with the force. Skipping ahead to 25 years after Episode 4, the galaxy is invaded by the Yuuzhan Vong (aliens possibly from another galaxy who have no force presence, they try to enslave the galaxy in a riligious crusade lasting 5 years), Jacen and Jaina find themselve in pivotal roles in that conflict. Jacen is troubled early on about how he views the force, at one point he stops using it entirely, only breaking from that when his mother's life depended on it. He and his younger brother Anakin would often disagree about the force, despite being brothers both trained by Luke Skywalker. During the invasion, Anakin leads a strike team to destroy a facility producing jedi hunting beats called Voxyn. The mission goes bad and they end up on the run from the Yuuzhan Vong, several young jedi die and although he completes the mission Jacen is captured and held captive on a Yuuzhan Vong ship, by a strange force senstive being called Vergere. Jacen, believed dead by his friends and family (all except for his mother) is tortured by Vergere and the Yuuzhan Vong, however it slowly becomes aparent Vergere is not all she seems, she teaches Jacen a new way to experience the force, this would play a big part in his life and in the future of the jedi order. After being implanted with a Yuuzhan Vong coral seed (later removed) he discovers he has an empathy with their living technology, creating a bond with a 'world brain' that would later help the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances (GFFA) to reclaim Coruscant from the Vong. While on Coruscant he goes on a journey of discovery of sorts, assisted and in some ways hindered by Vergere along the way, he reclaims his dead brother Anakin's lightsaber as well. Vergere teaches him many things (probably an essay in itself) but some of the main points include letting him control his pain, to not show fear or let it overwhelm him, and that emotions he had considered 'dark' can be used for good purposes, that there is no darkside, only the force. With the help of Ganner Rhysode (who sacrifices himself defeating a small army of Vong using Anakin's lightsaber) Jacen escapes Coruscant with Vergere and returns to his friends and family a changed man. He becomes an even more pivotal figure in the war, he and Vergere have their disagreements but he follows her teachings, unfortunatly she dies shortly after they return saving him and several other young jedi from certain death. At the conclusion of the war, at the battle of Coruscant, he is part of the jedi team that raids the supreme Lord of the Yuuzhan Vong's chambers, he, his sister and Luke Skywalker defeat Shimra, ***big spoiler*** however Jacen discovers that Shimra was a pawn for a force using Vong called Onimi, Jacen defeats him but only after becoming more intuned with the force than any known jedi before, he clears all thoughts of greed and power lust from his mind becoming unified with the force, he at once knows he will never reach this blissful state again and yet will spend the rest of his life trying to attain it. =dark nest trilogy stuff to come= Jaina Jacen's twin, and Han and Leia's only daughter, she also had a hard time growing up, it didn't help that her parents were so busy that they were not their for her much in her early years. She, like Jacen and Anakin spent time at their Uncle Luke Skywalkers Yavin Academy, before the war with the Vong. When the war did break out Jaina was eager to show off her piloting abilities (something she was proud to of inherited from her father) and eventually joined Rogue Squadron, she serverd with them early on in the war before a temporary blindness and several other setbacks forced her to leave. She was one of the Jedi who went on the mission to destroy the Voxyn, and was distrought when Anakin died, she went dangerously close to the darkside, and was only pulled back with help from Kyp Durron, Jagged Fel, and perhaps Jacen's own miraculous survival. She lead the Twin Suns fighter squadron many times in the war, she shared the leadership with Jag who was Baron Soontir Fel and Syal Antilles son, they fell in love and started seeing each other in secret although they drifted apart after the war. She played an important role in many military engagments, and after the mission to Myrkr was knighted and named the Sword of the Jedi by Luke Skywalker. She was present at the end of the war with her uncle and Jacen, and was nearly killed by Onimi. =Dark Nest to come= Anakin Born after the Twins, Jacen and Jaina, and named after his grandfather Anakin Skywalker (aka Darth Vader) Anakin certainly had a lot to live up to. Early on he proved to be a natural with machines and mechanics of all sorts, and even reactivated CenterPoint station, a massive hyperspace laser in the Corellia system. He was haunted by fears of following the same path his grandfather walked, although in the end he got through the Jedi Academy without any hint of such things. He was quiet yet strong in the force. When the war started Anakin was only 15, however he would prove to be an exceptional Jedi, although at the very start he was hit hard by the death of family friend Chewbacca, he was the one who made the call to leave the planet Chewie was stranded on (a moon was crashing onto it, caused by a vong creature) although this probably saved the life of his father and all the refugees on the Falcon, his father was so distrought by it he went so far as blaming Anakin for Chewie's death. He disagreed with his brother Jacen about the Force, and although they continued to disagree his view of the Force changed, after spending time on Dantooine with Mara Jade Skywalker he learnt to rely on the Force less and became better for it. It was also on Dantooine that perhaps marked him out among the Jedi at the time, he fought of many Vong who tried to kill him and the sick Mara. He proved a capable pilot, and grew even more as a jedi, before the Vong invaded the Jedi Academy on Yavin on a mission to eliminate the Jedi. He knew his friend Tahiri was still there and rushed to get there first despite being told not to. He got there ahead of the Vong, and managed to get the jedi there safely hidden, however Tahiri and several others remained behind trying to emulate him as a hero; they were forced to make a daring escape which resulted in the death of small jedi master Ikrit, and the capture of Tahiri. After regrouping he set off alone to free Tahiri, on the quest he ended up fighting alongside a falsely shamed Yuuzhan Vong called Vua Ruupung (sp) together they managed to get inside the Vong compound, and after forming a strange relationship they rescued Tahiri who had been in the process of being 'shaped' into a Yuuzhan Vong, her memory changed and scarred phiscally she would never be the same again. During their escape Anakin managed to clear Rupuung's name although Rupuung died helping them get away. He and Tahiri fell in love, although it would prove tragic as during a mission he led above Myrkr to destroy a Jedi hunting Voxyn beast, he was badly wounded (claiming its "just a scratch" and would later die fighting an army of Yuuzhan Vong in order for them to escape and kill the Queen Voxyn. At the point of his death he was so intune with the Living Force that he glowed, although in his damaged condition his cells could not stand the sheer power and he could not sustain it. Since he died he has been hailed as a hero, his death hurt Leia and Han badly, as well as Tahiri, Jaina, and Jacen. Jacen later believed he saw Anakin as a force ghost on Vongformed Coruscant while he was being trained and tortured by Vergere, however its unclear wether this was him or just a hallucination. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? That's quite right CC. The first book burst the "protective bubble" around the main characters >_>. I couldn't read another NJO book for a while after that due to other things. Still haven't gotten past Star by Star. _______________ "Do or do not, there is no try" Jedi Master Yoda Dual Saberist |

Quote: I've read both of the Jedi Academy trilogies from Star Wars, but that's about it. I've heard that the NJO series is great, so I'm going to get down on reading that some time. Its a great series, although some people really dislike the dark direction it took, personally it took star wars once and for all away from ewoks and jar jar binks and dragged it kicking and screaming into mature well written sci fi; thats just my opinion of course Note-worthy books (imo) are: Agents of Chaos duology, Traitor, Star by Star, Destiny's way, Edge of victory Duology, Balance point, Unifying Force. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? Quote: nah, although Myrkr is where Talon Karrde had his base in the Thrawn Trilogy if you have read that. Ah yeah, that's where I knew it from. I've read the Thrawn Trilogy, the Jedi Academy Trilogy and some random books like Truce (sp?) at Bakura, Children of the Jedi, the book where those Dathomir Witches appear. Yeah they are all cool, i've read too many lol if you ever get the chance the 'New Jedi Order' series is well worth reading though, as is the Dark Nest trilogy that comes after it. Yeah, heard a lot about the New Jedi Order Trilogy, sounds awesome, but I've yet to see it for sale or in libraries somewere around here Don't understand why they don't have all the Star Wars books sounds crazy, a lot of the NJO are bestsellers as well, does amazon deliver over there or anything? They do, but I doubt they've got Dutch versions. |
