It was zhang ziyi? hang on, i read a movie review magazine with upcoming movies, and said she was 40

damn. Still hot though.

Maybe it was referring to Michelle Yeoh who seems about that age, although she was not in the leading role (Zhang Ziyi won several leading actress awards for her portrayal of Sayuri in the film)

Zhang Ziyi - born 9 February 1979. Why did you think she was 40? Or did you think another actress was the lead? :)

It follows the life story of a Japanese girl, taken from her family and raised in a Geisha house. She decides to become a Geisha and after the opportunity presents itself becomes a very renowned one, however when Japan is brought into the Second World War, it shows how her life and others are changed by it, along with the traditions and culture of the Japanese people. Its also a love story, however it is not dull. :)

There are plenty of great directors out there, including Kubrik. However it is folly to start throwing names around, particularly as everyone enjoy's different styles of film, and directors themselves specialise in varying areas of filmmaking.

For instance; I went to see Memoirs of a Geisha last week, directed by Rob Marshall. I was very impressed and frankly thought that it was an amazing film. It proved an oriental film did not have to feature Ninjas, or Samurai (etc.) to bring across how interesting, in this case, Japanese culture and tradition can be. :)

omg japanese film without ninjas :P? (j/k) i havent heard of that film though, whats it about?

yes. i enjoyed pulp fiction and kill bill, particually pulp fiction. i have to admit i laughed quiet hard in various parts (even though they werent supposed to be funny.) but yeah i think he's a great director :). however i think he's a bit strange :P in Sin City, Jessica Alba was fully prepared to do the role nude (as it is in the comics/graphic novels) but the director said it was ok and they'd get a costume sorted out for her... he really ruined my day :P

but seriously he's directed some pretty good movies :)

Yes Tarantino has certainly made some good films, as Monteee said Pulp Fiction stands out, while Resovoir Dogs, and the Kill Bill duo both offered something to enjoy.

He does throw his name around on projects though, as Monteee mentioned with Hero and Hostel, but its also a case with Sin City, he was brought in as a guest director for one scene, and even for that his name is mentioned a lot when the film is mentioned despite it being directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller.

Ah good choice. Writing movie reviews is a bit of a sick and twisted hobby of mine. Of course the movies I tend to review are completely obscure and usually terrible. If you wanna be a good critic then be sure to use as much cynicism and satire as possible. Being a overzealous, pompous, jackass doesn't hurt either. Also, if you can, use as much confusing profanity as possible.

If you are actually going to priase a film (god forbid), then be sure to point out what you like about it. What made you feel that way, etc.

I tend to use the "what I liked/ Didn't like" formula when I write a review. It's basic and get's your points across. Though if you completly enjoyed a film then the "didn't like" section may come across as nitpicking.

Anyway, good luck.
