To Entertain and to Endanger | |

Today at 7:45 A.M. local time, the XTO Landmark tower in downtown Fort Worth Texas was imploded, bringing a 407-foot building crashing to a six-foot pile of debris in less that seven seconds. The building was erected in 1954. As the tower came crashing down, you could hear the ooh's and ahh's and the shouts coming from the crowd. I found it somewhat odd how we are entertained by the same sight that terrified us on 9/11. It has me befuddled. Discuss? _______________ I'm crazy, not stupid. |

oh and about your question Sared. we as humans are drawn to destruction and tragedy (car crashes, train wrecks, the Romans had their coliseum, etc.), we just get to enjoy it more (or it's socially acceptible to say we enjoy it) when we know no one is going to actually be hurt. _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! |

It was almost surely a safe and planned demolition event, with the building evacuated and people kept shielded and away from the rubble. _______________ -Aiddat, the Gran with the green blades. Well, if there was nobody actually in the building, then it makes sense. |
