Bioware Austin has already begun work on a Massively Multiplayer Online roleplaying game (MMORPG) title; the new game will mark BioWare's debut in the Massively Multiplayer Online space. BioWare has recruited some of the top talent in MMO and RPG development, both to manage the development efforts at BioWare Austin and to collaborate with the experienced team at BioWare Edmonton, to develop a game that combines the best of BioWare's great past games with a compelling persistent online experience.

They've opened a new office in Austin, Texas for it.
For those who don't know (!), Bioware did Kotor (the first!), along with games like Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, and Jade Empire.

I expect Bioware to do a really good job, but I'm not huge on MMORPG's. So I'll wait and see.

I'd like to see an MMORPG that:
-Has a dynamic world, e.g. Vancleef stays dead, players can build (and burn down) houses
-Has twitch-based combat
-Doesn't have a concept of a character's "level," at least not in the sense that a high-level character can inexplicably take a superhuman amount of damage and still fight.

There are already rumours that Bioware will be taking over the SWG franchise from Sony, however there are so many rumours about SWG that sadly this will likely prove unfounded.

...No. Bioware has stopped doing franchised games. Here on in, all of their games are in their own universes. No more star wars, no more d&d. (Which, incidentally, means comparing their mmorpg to SWG or D&D online is rather foolish, except in the context of comparing to *all* others.)

Aha okay, shame they would of done a good job of it i think. Still as i said i wasn't really expecting the rumours to be true, there have been so many have there not?

I liked the style of Jade Empire, and i love oriental/eastern influences in games, however as i said i never played their earlier games like NWN or Baldurs Gate which were more fantasy based from what i can tell. Still they know their stuff so could be something to watch out for in the future.

This could be interesting, i was reading an article earlier about the future of MMOG's after WoW, and there are certainly plenty coming out in over the coming years, some look pretty good as well, seeing as Bioware are known for quality games, and have plenty of experience i wouldn't be surprised if this was a big hit, just look at what Blizzard have done with WoW.

Anyway personally from what i can tell MMOG's are going to play a large part in the future of games for quite a while.

well tbh i think that a mmorpg from bioware will probably be a even bigger grind than usual, with some cleche story line :P

my post here wasnt refering that biowares games were grinding games with rubbish storys. i was actually refering to mmorpgs, and that i thought a bioware mmorpg would be another grinding mmorpg with a bad story.
w/e if u didnt get that

I've never played NW, but i keep meaning too heh, i heard it was similar in style to KotOR1? Wish they released Jade Empire for the PC tbh.

While no expert on Bioware games at all (i have only played KotOR) from that and what i know of Jade Empire, they do not usually aim for large grinds in RPG's although they do stick with the dice role formulae. There are already rumours that Bioware will be taking over the SWG franchise from Sony, however there are so many rumours about SWG that sadly this will likely prove unfounded.

If i were to make a guess i would imagine a Bioware MMORPG being quite accesable to be honest, certainly not an even bigger grind that some of the MMORPG's that have been out. Oh and you thought KotOR had a clichè story line? Interesting, you see some would say it has the best star wars storyline in quite a while, with an amazing plot twist. ;)
