With all the recent releases or upcoming releases of hero movies i thought id take a more literal look at who you feel is a hero.

Feel free to post either famous names from history or from present time as well as perhaps people like teachers or friends who you feel is a personal hero and a little detail into why :)

And that's not me whining....that's me saying a three year old who fights and survives one of the most ferocious diseases on the planet...deserves to be called a hero.

I wouldn't say just kids, anyone who has to battle cancer. :)

It is worse for kids though, i get what your saying... :P

Ok the best example of a hero I know personally is my own mum. She split from my dad when I was 4 and my sister was 2. We moved back to the UK from Dubai when they split, and she had no home, money or job. She made sure me and my sis still went to school and stuff, and kept out of trouble. We got a house on a council estate but after working enough she managed to get a mortgage to buy it. She then married my step-dad when I was 9, but he unfortunately died when I was 11.

I then went through a phase of being involved with drugs and some not so cool people, but she helped me kick all that by the time I was 17, and the year before that we bought a new house. Two years ago we found out she has cancer, and she still made sure me and my sister finished our a-levels. A few weeks ago we found out she doesnt have long to live. She still smiles and is positive, and is showing strength I never thought posible in a person, and we are enjoying the time we have left together as a family. When she does die she will be leaving me and my sister a secured home and car, and we are both starting new careers in September. Me as a policeman, my sister as a nurse. She did this all on her own with no help from my biological father and only a small family in the UK to help out. From nothing she has single-handedly built a secure future for me and my sister, and given us a bunch of great memories of the time we spent together. To me THAT is a hero, someone who just gets on with things in the face of adversity and never gives up :)

ahw thats really nice :). im sorry about your mum :( its really sad when... yeah sorry im not really good at this kinda stuff. good luck mate :)

yes, i totally agree with this.
I dont really have a old hero, but i think that my best friend luke is kinda a hero in that respect. He's a really great guy and is alwasy there for me when i need it, we've known each other for ages and always have a good laugh. Although he can be a bit annoying sometimes, he's usually just messing around and we laugh about it afterwards. basicly, he's a great guy and he's one of those friends that you know you're gunna stick with for the rest of your life :). rock on brudda! :)

To me a Hero is anyone Brave enough to do acts of compassion in the face of terror, chaos and evil.

Anyone willing to fight for freedom, goodness, and compassion even though they don't have too, even though other's around them sit by do not.

Anyone like Mother Teresa, they are far too few people who totally use compassion in all its self.

I guess a Hero to me is a person who does some incredibly compassionate and brave act that sets him above or apart from the general crowd.

Anyone else notice that there's always three reoccuring answers on this forum?

One of them is usually a really random one, referring to someone you have never heard of before.. but feel like you somehow should have done.

Another is somehow star wars related

And the third is some philosophical masterpiece designed to make people fold their arms and nod agreeably.

Sorry, randomness there... :P

Anyway, in my opinion, a hero is only made a hero by those that hold him/her in such a regard.

But yeah, my hero is my Grandfather.. For reasons i prefer to keep to myself :) (Lets just say, he said a few things that changed me, and i live by them to this day :))
