I have to agree, Crouch is certainly not a bad player, but he is not world class either. Average at best no offence to liverpool fans. He just does not have the technical ability that some players do at the world cup, and this would let us down later on in the competition. Sure he has put away some goals against Jamaica and Trinidad, but this does not mean he has become a world class striker. While i personally think Owen is overrated, you can't argue that he has scored plenty of goals for england, and is experienced. Regardless Owen is out, so that matters little in the big picture. I would like to see Erikson try a different formation myself, although i still think England would work well in a variation of 3-5-2 myself  The big issue i have with the way England have gone about this world cup, is Erikson's team choices, well two to be precise. He left out one striker, taking only four, this would not of been a problem, if he had not also gambled by 1)bringing Rooney despite the question marks over his fitness, 2)Made Owen the #1 striker despite the question marks over his match fitness (he had only played six hours of football all year), and 3)Bringing Theo Walcott, who is inexperienced at premiership level let alone champions league or international. The inclusion of Walcott made a mockery of the idea you have to earn your place in the England squad. Apart from Theo Walcott we have no other striker, and Sven proved in the group stages that he wont play Walcott. England wil play with Rooney as the front man from now on imo, subbing him with Crouch if needed. _______________ |JAA| since 02/05/06 Green for life |

Actually, in a wierd way Owen going home will strengthen our team. The reason being Sven will now be a forced to play a 4-5-1 formation which is what he should do anyway. That formation gives the Gerrard the freedom to go forward as well as Lampard, which I think is going to be the key to us doing well, as Lampard does not appear to have his scoring shoes on this tournament. lol I'm not pleased about his injury. It just means that English team gonna be weakened cause he's very good player. The best strike certainly (so far) however i'm not sure as a 'goal' it beats the 24 pass super goal by Argentina when England start playing that well then we will be in a position to win the tournement, and i'm sure they are capable.. with the right team selection. So. I was surprised Germany beat Ecuador. Not sure who will win this, on current form England will probably edge it, then again it could be a draw, especially as i think starting Hargreaves is a bad mistake.
