So like... I'm in Israel right now.

The situation isn't pretty and I have my own views about it but I'd like to hear yours.

Discuss.

Lol Buzz I'm not even going to dignify that with a response. :P

Right on, tarpman. That article is fairly accurate and paints quite a scary picture. A picture in which, if Iran gets involved, we have World War III.

And for lack of a better blessing, may the goddamn force be with you, Nati. :P

This column, which I read in the paper this morning, sums up my point of view quite well.

Of course I disagree with killing civilians, and I have nothing against Muslims, but it's true that the international community tends to be somewhat ineffective at truly terminating terrorist threats.

In other news, alliteration FTW. :D

Hey Bubu, check out this brilliant insight into gettinge peace in the middle east. Its a quote from someone who actually believes this is an idea that will work.

Quote:
I haven’t seen any of you come up with a viable solution to help the Muslims and Jews learn to live peacefully, except to nuke 1 billion people. That is a disgusting idea. Arranged marriages have been around for a long time, throughout several civilizations. I propose the idea of x amount of Muslim men marry Jewish women and live on the Gaza strip and in other parts of the region and raise families.

No one else here has come up with any other viable solutions except me. It’s the only solution that doesn’t involve killing others or taking away land or even disrupting religious beliefs. I believe a Jewish woman can handle being married to a Muslim man.

That'll work won't it? :P

Yes I realize they have Iranian missiles, but so far they haven't reached past Nazareth and their launchers have been pushed back to Beirut, so I can only hope they won't reach further south.

Where do you serve? My cousin is in Nahal. Gdud 50. He was just released from mandatory service a few months back. I hope they don't call him in now for miluim.

Our soldiers don't get enough praise and recognition for the shit they go through for the country.

The basic impression that I am getting from this is that Muslim extremists funded by the government once again provoke someone and then when Israel responds with force they start to cry. Now I don't know the conditions of the Muslim prisoners Israel is holding but if they are already guilty or are being questioned in a non-guantanamo(or however you spell it) situation, then Hezobollah should not get his men back under any circumstances.

The BBC *are* incredibly biased, but when they're owned and funded by national government, what do you expect?

The BBC are incredibly anti-Israel in all of their reporting. The reporters they send to any middle-eastern conflict involving Israel are all anti-Israeli, which you can tell from their reports. The reports are always along the line of "Israel has been doing this - check out these poor, hard-done-by Palestinian people. BAD BAD ISRAEL."

They even managed to turn last night's report, on the news, about Hezbollah into an anti-Israeli report even AFTER a civillian said to the reporter "We hate Israel, we will wipe Israel out completely."

I never take anything from the media in the UK (and, indeed, other areas) as containing truth, I'd rather find out the information from more reliable sources.

BBC = Biased British Crap.

And if you want evidence of that, North Korea actually allows it to be shown in their hotels

Quite so.

I spent almost all night comparing between news reports in English, in other words, non-israeli, and reports in Hebrew. Text, video, everything. Too bad I don't read Arabic or I would have read Lebanese reports too.

I found so many holes in the English news it's not even funny. They report whatever the hell they want to report, and post some pictures of buildings exploding and lebanese people covered in blood. They are basically painting a picture. They are not reporting news, they are attempting to quietly instill an anti-israeli image in people's minds and they are not even telling half the story. It's sickening, frankly.

And I'm not just swallowing the Hebrew news here, I actually know pretty much first hand. I have cousins in the army, I know a lot of people who live up north close to the border, I even know a couple of Lebanese guys. There are warplanes flying overhead all the time and the situation is all people talk about, understandably.

It pisses me off when all journalists care about is their scoop and satisfying the sponsors. When you read "news" from the Middle East, try to avoid the big networks like CNN and BBC.

EDIT: By the way:

Quote:
Lebanese TV showed footage of what it said was an Israeli F-16 fighter aircraft falling from the sky over Beirut in flames, but Israel said none of its aircraft had been shot down, and said it was a missile

That's from the BBC. Not only did they say it was a missile, they also showed that footage in its entirety. It shows an israeli bombardment of a weapons cache, in which, quite clearly, one of the missiles catches fire and starts spiralling upwards out of control and later falls to the ground, which is what they claimed was an Israeli plane.

Well, to be honest, I can see where people are coming from saying Israel is going over the top (I'm supporting Israel, BTW). However, what more can you ask... Prior to commencing bombing, Israel:
1) Published a demand for the return of kidnapped persons - threatening attacks if the demands were not met.
2) Air-dropped leaflets on all of the areas they intended to bomb/attack advising civillians to leave the area.

Don't tell me that's not giving fair warning, and plenty of chance to avert a crisis.

Well I'll just post a part of a comment from someone else on another website to show how screwed up the world response is, and its also a dig at the idiocy and wrongness of the useless nations:

Quote:
But the only thing the UNSC has tried to do was to try to put out a resolution that condemned Israel.

(It’s been months now, and the UNSC can’t manage to find anything to do about either Iran or North Korea, but a terrorist group attacks Israel and kidnaps some soldiers, and it takes less than 48 hours to condemn Israel for daring to respond. Nothing about Syria, nothing about Hamas, nothing about Hezbollah, nothing about Iranian Republican Guards being the ones who fired the Chinese-made short-range cruise missile into an Israeli warship, nothing about that - just the standard “It’s all the JOOOOOOOS’ fault!";)

You have no idea how much that "disproportionate response" bullcrap pissed off the Israeli public.

But it's understandable. This conflict fuels a lot of their economies, so they say whatever they can in order to perpetuate it.

No, I'm not. Both my grandmas live here, two aunts, two uncles, and five cousins. And a lot more slightly more distant relatives and friends. There is no way I'll just pack up and leave as soon as things get a little hot and leave them all behind. I only come here once a year and I fully intend to stay the entire planned period. And I'm not scared. This is home after all. Hell, if it comes to all out war, I'll even stay and enlist in the army. But it won't come to that.

I found this site just now which lays out my views pretty well. The animations at the bottom pretty much explain all the background. The stuff happening today is just more of the same.

There's also a powerpoint presentation out there somewhere that shows all these organizations and events that talk about a free and independent palestine. Every single image of a Free and independent palestine is that of the complete state of Israel.
