Actually I've read that the average deaths under Saddam were between 25,000 and 50,000 per year(this is based off the highest and lowest estimates of deaths, since no one really kept a count of the bodies). In today's world under our supervision I read that 66,000 die per year. It's not like the U.S. military kills those people....obviously the terrorists attribute the most to the death count....but in actuality it isn't any safer for people over there now that we are there. |

Quote: Almost every story was centered on body counts and how many civilians died, never how many were saved. That's a great point. Nobody will ever know, but some people think Saddam may have killed between 2000 and 7000 civilians per month during his reign, and with good reason. So when you hear doomsayers bemoaning "200 death this month" or whatever the factoid of the week is, subtract that number from 2000 and figure at least that many lives were probably saved that month. This is not to discount the deaths that do ocurr, and every killing is awful, but it's good to put things in perspective: Saddam's reign is over. _______________ My signature is only one line. Don’t be fooled by the Media, they are out to make money, plain and simple. It's very sad to say but death sells better than joy, it’s a fact and the media knows it. I saw this while I was deployed. The stories they did were almost always focused on the bad that was going on over there and hardly any of the good. Almost every story was centered on body counts and how many civilians died, never how many were saved. I’m just saying the media spins a lot of things to suit them, and the way they did it tore a lot of Marines up over there including myself. Yeah I didn’t mean to make this long, perhaps its true perhaps not, just try not to always take the headlines as gospel. -Seth note: in no way am I saying that any of this applies to you JavaGuy _______________ Nimravus Avatar created by Majno This comment was edited by Nimravus on Sep 17 2006 01:44am. |

Nope! No Bomb carrying cameljockeys in Iraq before the US invaded, just a dictator refusing the UN to mess up his wardrobe! And ofcourse some companies who fancied growing a bit fatter on other peoples misery. _______________ God is a comedian playing to an audience too afraid to laugh. |
