My prediction: Lots of viruses to flag the software as pirated.

Good thing I switched to Mac. I'll have to get Vista for games though on the other partition.

I'm pretty sure it has to deal with illegal copies of windows vista itself, and other pirated versions of windows software. There are very likely going to be a lot of cracks and ways around this as well as viruses that will give the "pirate" alert to clean software. Can't blame them for trying it but it does seem kind of futile.

I think it refers to Winbloze itself, not to other pirated software you might have on your system.

I angrily jumped to Linux after my last virus incident a few years ago, and I don't miss Windows at all.

i second that!

I'm actually in doubt.
First off, there are the system requirements which have me saying outright 'no'. I'm not into upgrading three pc's (of four) in the house (memory, mostly) because of the new operating system.
I do know on the other hand that (as always) Microsoft will discontinue support for XP and 2000 when Vista is up and running completely, so eventually the switch will have to happen (not that I need those security updates every month, nor those updates checking for illegal software).

I'm subscribed to a PC-magazine which I've learned to trust and they tested Vista and still continue to do so, writing a lengthy report on games/hardware/software every month. I know the information they give is accurate (so far it has always been so) and they actually recommend the switch to Vista.

Henceforth, my doubt.

While we are kind of on the subject, what's with the prohibition to keep installing your software? As soon as you install your WinXP for the fourth time, it becomes illegal software and you have to buy a new code?
What happens if you happen to have a computer that crashes a lot?

thats kinda stupid ... like javaguy said, new viruses will come along to dub programs as pirated, not legal copies ... this is going to backfire seriously imo ... yet another grab for money by the already rolling rich Bill Gates :o
