*Edit: There's nothing to gain in this situation. A man dies, what's gained? The damage is already dealt we cannot undo the past. Besides death isn't a punishment. Its common for a head of state to be executed by shooting, since thats usually considered to be a "more honorable" method of execution. As far as i know, saddam even requested to be shot but got denied and will be hanged like a common criminal instead. That's likely the arabic death sentence for a situation like this so it wouldn't be a slap in the face. As for the fairness of the trial, it was likely as fair as it possibly could be. You know about like a trial where there is video evidence, from 10 different angles, 20 eye witnesses, and the defendents fingerprints everywhere. I think that possibly the only defense he could have had was claims that atrocities carried out were ordered and conducted by people under him and he had no knowledge of it. And for how long it took, it really didn't take that long. Look at the ICC's attempt to try milosevic. Hands up if you think he's innocent?! If he was trialled by sunnis ppl wouold say that they sympathised and would be lenient with him - If he was trialled by Shia's then they 'would be out for revenge'. I haven't got a clue what I would do with him, because that court is damned either way. if they kill him, it's victor's justice. If they just lock him up, they are being too lenient or they risk his followers breaking him out and starting again. Good thing they were concentrating on the one incident or he'd die of old age before he was trialed completely for everything he did. _______________ This is not the place to look for me |

I'm not surprised. I'm just shocked we haven't seen some sort of retalitory action besides protests yet.
