Religion and Star Wars Dr. Jenkinson English Fundamentals 18 October 2006 “The Force is an energy field created by all things. It surrounds us, penetrates us, it bins the galaxy together.”— Obi-wan Kenobi, Episode V. The force not only is created by all living things, but the inherent nature of the creature the force inhabits relegates the force’s gravitation to either the way of purity, peace, selflessness etc. (light side) or the way of power, malice, corruption etc. (dark side) The Jedi are like angels in that they use they’re force abilities for the good of all beings. The Sith, on the other hand seem to be like demons, they seek to conquer all races using their perverted mastery of the dark side of the force, to make everyone submit to their rule. There are many other comparisons to be made between the Bible and Star Wars. The Bible states that Lucifer (Satan) and the angels that followed him where cast out of haven into hell, for their attempt to over though God. The casting out of followers of dark side from the Jedi Order, and their settlement on Korriban a planet in the star wars universe, seems to mirror this biblical event. The tempting of Jesus by Satan in the desert, and the tempting of Anakin by Darth Sidious in Revenge of The Sith seem linked as well. In Episode III Anakin is tempted to fall to the dark side by Darth Sidious in order for Anakin to save his wife, Padame from death during the birth of Luke and Leia. Palpatine/Sidious does this by telling Anakin about a Sith Lord by the name of Darth Plagueus, “He had such a knowledge of the dark side; he could influence the midi-chlorians (micro-organisms of the star wars universe that live inside all the cells of a living being, the more midi-chlorians a being has the stronger they are with the force) to create…life.” Similarly Satan tries to tempt Jesus into using his divine power to make his time the desert more tolerable. The battle between the Jedi and Sith can be used as a metaphor to describe the eternal struggle the human race has endured, in the conflict between the darkness and the light. Redemption is another theme that ties the bible and star wars together. A future disciple Jesus, Paul (formerly Saul) was a hateful man who despised Christians. On the road to Damascus; he was blinded by God. During his blindness received a vision of an angel. He then accepted Christ, his sight was returned to him, and he continued to Damascus, a changed man. Darth Vader was redeemed by his son; Luke, in The Return of The Jedi. Redeeming his father came at a high price the young Jedi, he received several excruciatingly painful doses of force lighting (a dark side force power, which enables the user to shoot electrical energy from his/her fingertips.) Darth Vader watches Luke being killed, his mind in turmoil. “Father please!” Luke cried as another wave of force lighting hit him. Vader’s good side that had been buried and/or suppressed inside of him finally wins the battle going on in his mind; he picks up Emperor Palpatine, tossing him into the reactor core of the incomplete second Death Star. Star Wars incorporates an idea that is shared by many religions, the idea of an after life. The Star Wars saga supports this by stating a body does not die, the soul of the body moves to a higher plain of existence, becoming “one with the force.” Star Wars can be seen as a way for anyone to start to think that there is something beyond human understanding that guides them, a higher power who can’t be seen, but like the force; the being surrounds us, penetrates us, and bids the universe together. _______________ Lucas Ammons |

You need to work on your paragraphing, I'm not even going to read that. Watch your spelling too, Microsoft Word has a spell checker among other programs. Write in there and copy and paste.
Regarding religion, I'll never feel comfortable with the religions of real life being mixed with a fantasy Sci-Fi storyline. I just don't like it. I've said to you before that people watch Star Wars and read the EU books to delve in to there imaginations and even learn a bit. As Sared said, read the books. I recommend it as I have heard great things about these pieces of literature you would do well to learn about. -Zeke. |

There are many stories that have biblical influences, haven't you heard of the chronicals of narnia or lord of the rings?
btw paul didnt have a vision of an angel on the road to damascas, Acts 9:4-5 'and he fell to the earth and heard a voice saying unto him, saul, saul, why persecutest thou me? and he said 'who art thou lord? and the lord said, i am jesus who thou persecutest' _______________ I can write my name with my sparkler. Luke, please go read a few of the New Jedi Order books. I may not like the way some of the storyline goes, but it delves into more of the philosophy behind the Jedi in some pretty profound ways that I think you will find intellectually intriguing and philosophically challenging.
Above all things, remember that it is a story. And George Lucas is the Antichrist. _______________ I'm crazy, not stupid. |
