That was a funny clip!!!! :D

I think its a win-win situation. Beckham is going to be making tons of money, and the MLS will at least be getting a tiny bit more exposure. Even if it's just from 14 year old girls that think he's all that and a bag of 100 calories doritos.

Boost in ratings for a month to levels that not even the least viewed NFL game would consider good viewing. It'll then slide off again. Kind of like the big surge women's soccer got when the ladies were doing so great in the women's world cup.

I don't know how the League let alone that team is able to afford paying the salary he will receive. The best NFL players don't get that much. I don't even think A-Rod has made that much per year as the highest played player in baseball. And these are the sports that are generating revenue and getting fans to watch.

They can justify spending the money on him because they're going to make it back and then plenty more purely based on the fact that they have David Beckham on their team. They'll be the ones selling the merchandise and licensing. Why do you think Real Madrid kept him for so long?

I'd say it equally parodies how some are excited by media-hyped things like the world cup before they realise they don't like the sport. Funny clip though :D

First off, how can a player be arguably the most famous in the world and NOT be overrated?

Buzz is right, the effects on boosting the popularity of soccerball in the USA will be minimal, if anything. Countless legends have played in America in late stages of their careers (George Best & Pele?) but no-one remembers them for that.

I'm not saying the popularity of the sport hasn't increased over there though. With the formation of the MLS I think it's certainly got more fans but it'll never catch on.

No player defines a team, He was great at Manchester United because they have great link play and passing aswell as communication on the pitch, This wasnt the case for him in spain and we didnt see the best of him. He certinly isnt overated and is a wonderful footballer. Im sure he will be fine in MLS and might get america in to soccer more and possibly make them more skilled for world cups etc...

Also remember Beckham still holds close to his heart training young people to follow in his footsteps, he doest go out drinking and fighting in clubs, he cares about the game he plays and wants to pass it on to younger generation. I believe he has set up several football schools for young children to get the right training and for them to be guided towards a professional career in football

When he is on form, no one can bend it like beckham. well except maybe Thiery Henry but then i rate him as possibly the best striker in the world:P

Agreed.

$55 million a year, mostly from endorsement deals, and his stake in the club.
So that makes about $150,000 a day.
