That makes two of us. :(

I don't mind seeing Boba, the bounty hunters, and an occasional Jedi in this series, they will all add to the Star Wars feel of the series and set it apart from other sci fi. Just as Vipers and Starbuck (as examples) set BSG apart from others, and so on.

However i would like to see a more mature, darker Star Wars than what we saw in the prequels. The kiddies have had their fun, they have had six films of varying quality, but always fun space opera and now its time for the serious fans and more adult cult tv viewers to get what they want - grown up Star Wars.

Look at how succesful the remake of BSG has been, it took an existing idea in a much more polished and mature direction adding in liberal doses of sex, violence, and real world ethics and its never looked back. Its what viewers of this sort of tv want right now, or so it seems.

I think delving into the Underworld and to an extent the nature of the Darkside in Star Wars is the way forward for this series. Its the Dark Times, that period Ben Kenobi alluded to mysteriously all those years ago... The remaining Jedi are being hunted all over the galaxy, and are widly hated for what the general public perceive as crimes against the government and so forth.

Rebellion against the Empire is stirring, but always at the lowest levels - they don't even have X-Wings yet people, Kyle probably dosn't have a beard yet! Okay maybe thats going too far...

All this adds upto (in a roundabout way) to what many of us loved about the OT - the scruffiness, the Falcon, Han and Chewie, the unliklihood of sucess yet achieving it against all odds. Eccentric droids, deadly villains that seemingly cannot be stopped, smuggling, spies. There are so many resources to mine in this period alone its barmy.

Here's hoping they get it right.

And yeah i've just been writing essays so i guess i was in the mood. :P

Oh yeah, when I originally heard about the plans for a live action series, I was hoping it would revolve around an X-wing Squadron.

I've been around in the background. I'm glad to see there are people here that remember me.

There are pilots, and soldiers, and stories to be told that don't revolve around jedi and bounty hunters, that don't revolve around selling space junk or the daily adventures of Uncle Owen and his wild and crazy moisture vaporators.

I want to see more about Wedge Antilles, and stuff like that. Afterall, Han Solo isn't a jedi. Although a good portion of his story has bounty hunters involved, it didn't revolve entirely around bounty hunters.

What about the Bothan spy network? Oh man the stories you could play out there!

thats very true but do we wanna see star wars market place where people sell space parts and alien food etc.. or do we wanna see battles between good and bad and bounty hutners chasing their targets ? as much as i agree there is much more, is it really more we need to see.

Here's an interesting interview with Peter Mayhew and Daniel Logan at New York Comic Con 07 on the live action TV series.:)

Star Wars -- Behind The Mask

This looks promising: Logan has a meeting with Rick McCallum next week and seems eager to reprise the role.

theres RUMORs of a Vos appearance - george lucas told writers not to kill him off in 66, and he was supposed to make a appearance in ep 3 - so hopefully this will work out, as vos rules ;o.

Yeah i heard this, and you are right, i'm not sure if he actually appeared or not, but there is definitley reference made in Ep III to a 'General Vos' i believe. Oh and yeah Quinlan's fate after the Republic comic series was left open, he has not been declared dead yet, making it likely he will appear as he is a fan favourite, and easy to cast for.

On the subject of surviving jedi i read somewhere that they have made the decision to keep Shaak Ti alive. Despite her death being filmed, twice, and there being other accounts of her death, non are considered canonical.

Apparently its recently been confirmed that she was alive at the end of Ep III, and that her death scenes were taken out for a reason. Maybe it was because of the tv series? Another thing that supports this is the fact that a very similar looking jedi has appeared in concept art for the 'secrets of the jedi' media campaign, which will cover games, comics, and the television show.

A link to the filmed scene of her death at the hands of General Greivous can be found here.

GL has stated that there will be no Skywalker story line and that it will concentrate more on the lesser known characters like, Tie and X Wing Pilot's and the like and not so much the ones we already know.
Personally I hope it's Boba Fett but from the sounds of it, it wont just concentrate on one particular character.:alliance::D:empire:

I don't have a problem with Boba Fett, I would have preferred him not being in the Prequel and rather being in the show. Seeing Fett in action and perhaps dealing with other bounty hunters is cool, but having him be all chummy with dad--I think took something off the character.

The droids certainly don't need to be included, seriously they didn't warrant screen time in the prequel.

If the emperor had one cameo, that would suffice I think. Since Vader hunted down the Jedi, I think it would be way more interesting if they kept him involved.

Per the writing--good stories can be discerned/compared whether they are film, tv, animation, etc.

See:

Here
,here
yep here as well!

Maybe we should try and get a thread about this stickied :P

The wikipedia article for it can be found here

Some of my thoughts are posted in those threads but:

-While almost everything is rumour at the moment, i think its a fair bet the series will feature Boba Fett as a primary of the 'minor characters' mentioned.

-Its rumoured that some of the stars from the prequal trilogy will make appearences, such as the Antony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Ian McDiarmid, and Hayden Christensen (as Darth Vader). I've no idea how true any of that is though, and stars like McDiarmid wouldn't be cheap to employ even part time.

-In case anyone dosn't already know it is set in the 19 year gap between Episodes III and IV, which is more interesting that it might initially sound. It gives them the opportunity to play off already existing characters, perhaps in the aforementioned ameos, or minor roles etc.

-It also means that they can portray some of the popular characters introduced in the comics, books, and games, of both the Clone Wars era and the Early Prequal era.

-There are possibilities of plots involving the formation of the Rebellion, and its varying individual cells. The Empire's consolidation of power, and the wiping out of the remaining seperists (they were not all droids afterall). It oculd also tie up the loose ends where the Jedi are concerned, as not all died in Order 66.

-Lastly it gives the creators a chance to portray Star Wars as being a darker, more mature concept again. They know they have a large adult/teenage following, and that Episode III and V are considered the most succesful of their respective trilogies. Considering its set in the 'Dark Times' i think it highly likley they will show a darker side of the star wars galaxy, cue bounty hunters, smugglers etc etc.

I'm hoping its more Angel than Buffy anyway.

Or more the new Battlestar Galactica, than Enterprise or something.

E: Oh and i'll just throw in that i'm not sure you can easily compare it to the actual Star Wars films. It will be written, financed, and directing completley differently to the films, and the differences between writing for Television and Film are huge. Personally i just hope its up there with Firefly, Battlestar, and Farscape in terms of writing and everything.
