Anyone else interested in this? Its the new game from Bioware, and its supposed to be out soonish this year.

Official site

Plot: The story revolves around an ancient alien prophecy stating that every fifty thousand years a portal that separates the "normal" universe and a realm beyond opens, spewing out an alien machine race that comes to the galaxy to harvest all sapient organic life, and the time of their return is approaching. As the first human Spectre – sworn defenders of galactic peace – Shepard's mission is to halt the advancing armies of Saren, a legendary Spectre agent gone rogue who apparently wishes to wipe out the entire human race using Prothean technology and an army of subservient geth. Shepard will lead an elite team across hostile alien worlds and discover that the true threat is far greater than anyone imagined. [[Taken from wiki article]]

Its an RPG that uses real time combat and squad tactics, set in the future (and in space), it follows the actions of the crew of the SS Normandy, as they try to battle some evil alien/machine dudes led by a rogue agent.

It actually sounds really good when you look into it, its huge, lots of customisation, lots of imaginative races and planets etc etc.

Its only coming to XBOX 360 at the moment i think, but i know a few people here have them. Knowing Bioware this should be something special.

*Update*

Well its here! In America anyway, the UK get it on friday. Anyone else getting this? Over the past few months I have steadily started looking forward to it more and more until now I cannot wait for it to arrive. I'm a sucker for a game with a great storyline.

Some reviews:

Gametrailers review
Gamespy review
IGN review
Gamespot list of reviews

Think i'll start off as a Sentinal.

Opinions?

I don't regret my decision too much. :P My PC would struggle anyhow. Roll on ME2!

My joy for the confirmation of a new KotOR game cannot be dampened however.

In other news: They have announced the first bit of downloadable content for ME, apparently it will add over 90 hours of gameplay and be downloadable from LIVE. For like 400 'microsoft points' of course. :P

In the future the word 'free' will be abolished.

Ever since 2003, celebrated Canadian studio BioWare has released award-winning role-playing games "exclusively" on Xbox platforms--only to have them arrive on the PC a few months later.
Typical corporate advertising scam to make people feel compelled to buy the crapbox for the sake of all those "exclusive" titles, only to have some of them released for other platforms in the end anyway.

...not that i'm complaining! :p

I have to say that Bioware's outdone themselves again, which is something because all of their previous games always outdo themselves from their predecessors and all their games are always better than the other games as a whole!

Mass Effect is easily one of the best games I've ever played. The dialog system is awesome, character customziation is awesome, storyline is awesome, world is awesome, characters are awesome, visuals are awesome, gameplay is awesome, voice acting is awesome, EVERYTHING'S AWESOME!

I liked how there were sex scenes in the game. Not that I get off on such things, but it makes the world seem far less censored and more realistic.

Still, nothing will be quite as disturbing as the scene in Fahrenheit.

Force would kinda throw off the whole sci-fi experience and it would stray into the fantasy realm. You do have biotics though, it harvests some similarities to force powers.

Right! 3rd post in a row, how'd ya like me now anti spamma's!?

I completed it in just under 10 hours with my soldier, however, upon realising the vast ammount of things i missed during my first play through, and the fact i can use him during a replay, i've decided to go through again, doing all the exploration quests and so on.

I'm just starting my second playthrough. Its an utterly fantastic experience, goes straight up there with the likes of Deus Ex, Zelda, KotOR, Freelancer and Morrowind in terms of single player games i've loved.

Incredibly cinematic too.

Been thinking what class to play now, I might try Soldier just so I can see what all the other guns do, i'm suffering pistol overdose after playing through with a Sentinal. Time to be a renegade too.

I'm just finding it difficult to settle on a choice for my guys face, I found it easier creating a woman. :P

Think i'll go for the Rick Deckard look.

I envy you. My xbox live account has screwed up so I cant download any trailers for the game. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix it help is appreciated. I will hand out champagne to the person who gives me the correct solution:(

What I also enjoy about the uncharted worlds (have not fully confirmed this) is that there are lockers and areas that are meant to be accessed on a second playthrough, with the New Game+.

This is because I've heard a lot of people complain about not being able to open a container, or lock, or salvage, etc. It's great that they have things for the player, in their second time through.

Have it, love it. Has some good moments of humor with Wrex, Joker, and Garrus. (Did you know Seth Green plays Joker?)

Only frustrating thing is the random moments where your character is caught at too low of a level. You can't go forward, because you'll get slaughtered, and you can't go back, because the game won't let you. That gets maddening, it's only flaw.

The dialog flow is excellent, and that's what makes this game.

Yeah I knew about Seth Green, the outtakes video with him was quite funny. Keith David (of Halo Arbiter and numerous other stuff fame) plays Anderson as well. In fact the whole voice cast is top notch. Its still weird hearing Carth in ME though. :P

Hmm yeah I know what you mean by that, I have only really got it once or twice so far, near the start of the game. I found the game much more challenging at the start, I am unsure if its because I have literally gone to ever uncharted world I have found so far but its become increasingly 'easy' - not to a boring extent, but my character is certainly powerful.

I think one reason for this is as I mentioned looting Uncharted Worlds. If you go to lots of them your inventory reaches critical mass, I have sold and earned so much money and looted so much stuff that most of my party members and my Sheppard are equipped with the best or near to it.

Its the dialog, plot, characters, the little details that make this game truly amazing.

Tal: Yes definitley get Mass Effect, however good Assasins Creed is, if you have a remote interest in decent sci fi, or decent rpg, or decent action adventure, Mass Effect will blow you away. Its a classic.

Mass Effect.

Assassin's Creed is fun, but is super-repetitious:

-Save a citizen.
-Blend in with newly-appeared scholars, who have nothing better to do than to stand around waiting for an assassin to stand in the middle of them.
-Enter city, because apparently, you can scale everything EXCEPT the city wall to get in. I guess the "If you can see it, you can climb it" mantra didn't mean what you thought.
-Conduct "investigations" by one of 4 ways:
A. Pickpocket
B. Eavesdrop, because in those times, everyone talked of sinister plots out in the open, with 3 people sitting on a bench nearby
C. Punch a guy 3 times until he spills his guts
D. Help a fellow "brother", who either got spotted, or dropped a bunch of damn flags while running around the rooftops, without realizing he dropped the first one, and just keeps going and losing more.

Then, when you actually get to assassinate someone, you stab them and stand around reminiscing with them for 10 minutes, while the guards apparently don't do anything.

And then you repeat this many, many times.

Do what I did: Rent Assassin's Creed, buy Mass Effect.

Edit: Also, between now and Christmas, it's worth it to read Mass Effect: Revelation. I did this before playing the game, makes the game so much better. Since you have a month, you can do it.

GAME are freaks, I ignore them. :P

Got mine from Play.com a day early and am a fair way in, although at my leisurely pace I usually take a lot longer to complete RPG's than most '1337 gamers" or however you put it.

The game itself is utterly fantastic, if you like sci fi, RPG's, action adventure games or good games in general you really shouldn't miss out on this. The only excuse is that you don't have a 360 - which is fair enough, not everyone wants one. I got one, and because of this one game its worth it.

I made a character and I was unsure how it would look ingame, but from the opening shot i was blown away, there is something about seeing your creation so obviously a part of this story and galaxy that is a crazy awesome.

At first I thought the exploring could get repetative but there is just enough deversity to make it compulsive, I find it hard to just ignore worlds that I can land on, its too much fun bouncing around in the MAKO. Which contrary to reports is excellent to drive, can shoot down from mountains realistically for surprise assaults, and is just generally a world of fun.

The story and plotlines are sublime. Some of the best ever included in a game, this is a game that is striving to be more than just a game, if MGS could be compared to a crazy anime style motion picture this is a hollywood blockbuster. Whats next Bollywood?

There are lots of clever references to other sci fi games, but generally they are handled with great subtlety unlike some games which throw them in your face with all the subtlety of an brick to the face.

Anyway, yeah, great game more than exceeds my HUGE expectations. Any bugs it does have are insignificant, its like really enjoying a copy of one of the greatest books ever written but complaining that a page here was bent over or that the cover looked 'weird'. Basically enjoy it for the experience.

Got a text in the middle of the night last night.. or maybe.. two nights ago.. don't remember.

Either way, it says "Your order of 'Mass Effect Ltd Ed' will be ready for collection tomorrow, it will be held for 3 days. Trade in your old games. Thanks"

Wtf was that last bit about? Some kind of subliminal message? Or maybe they're stalking me.. "I know you have more games... WE know this... GIVE THEM UNTO US OOORR DIIIEE!!!"

GAME scares me..
