In fact, I prefer XP's bare-bones style to Vista's somewhat bloated interface. Just goes to show, it's all a matter of opinion. :)
Opinions are abound here, as you know.

I guess I am biased because I have to fix XP all day. Of course I use it and XP is leaps and bounds better than w2k or ME but that doesn't mean that it is at all stable or the best OS there is, because it isn't. Not just my opinion I am sure.

Vista is a cowhog, bloated and greedy. I can't understand why an out of the box OS has to chewup 8 gigs of HDD space and start up using 500+MB of RAM.

Working with these OS's is my job, so maybe I am slanted in my opinions of them. XP may not be a POS when compared to its predecessors but when compared to an OS like OSX its plain junky.

The point remains, why buy something new if you want it to look old. As for making XP look like vista is like putting a new coat of paint on a pinto. Looks nice and new but still the POS it always has been. Same goes for the reverse. Setting a new OS to look like an old one is buying a new car and scratching up the paint.

No, that's not how it works at all. XP's style and Aero share many similarities. It's just a matter of preference - some people like the new glossy look, some people like the older schemes. This does not have anything to do with "old" or "new" unless you make that connection.

Also, very much disagree on XP being a "POS". I happen to own both and for now prefer XP for many reasons, though I'm sure to switch all my computers to Vista in the future, when it has matured somewhat.

uh why?

this is just about as silly as folks who install Win XP then set it up to look just like Win2k. I get it, peeps fear change but like upgrades.

There's more to an OS than just looks.
fer realz?

like what?

I am aware of that guys, but like I said already. People like upgrades but fear change which is why Microsoft allows you to regress the views in XP and Vista so that it "appears" to be the old OS that you have become accustomed to but it isn't.

Like Masta said. First of all, an operating system like Vista costs a lot of money. It also makes a lot of changes under the hood, resulting in incompatibility with a lot of games and other software. It's also more of a hardware hog, and Aero is hardware-dependant. There are a lot of reasons why you'd want your current installation to look like Vista as opposed to actually owning Vista. :)

Not that you'll get any flack from me, but I believe previous Vista themes for XP were removed by Microsoft, copyright infringement and stuff like that.
