Bioshock anybody?

Bioshock is coming out pretty soon, if it isn't out already. Has anybody been looking forward to it?

Its reviews are off the charts and everybody is predicting it as the next game of the year. I really think it has surpassed the expectations from System Shock fans.

I wouldn't say money was a problem for the majority unless they need new upgrades to go with the card. Two 8400gs in SLI would handle the game perfectly at max everything. I think using Vista would be the main deal ender there.

The game wouldn't sell well if it weren't. After all, not everyone can afford a high-end video card (...yet).

my friend just bought this game and he's having problems running it. actually it runs perfectly smoothly and movement is fine, but apparently things which are supposed to be somewhere aren't there. certain images don't show up and he just sees black boxes where they should be. he has no mouse pointer when he's trying to choose stuff as well.

he has a radeon x600 256mb and seems to think that that is the problem.

any ideas what might be going on?

Just finished the game - thought it was decent. It wasn't really the second coming of christ, unlike it was made out to be, but it was a good game nevertheless.

Bioshock was unexpectedly rich in action, and less rpg-oriented than i originally envisioned it to be - for a game that claims to be the spiritual sequel to system shock 2, i (at least) expected to see an inventory.
Plasmids were a rather fun feature though; catching rockets in mid-air and hurling them back at enemies is quite an experience when done for the first time.
The lack of a proper penality upon death and the wide availability of money/health-items made the game suprisingly easy to complete - and even though i read that ammo conservation would be crucial, i never managed to be at risk of running out of ammo at all, especially with all the money, vendors, and the effectiveness of plasmids etc.

Technically, the game was top-notch. Rather unexpected to see it run so well on my shabby midlow-range machine too. Although the minimum requirements are very high (video card had to support ps3.0), the game should be relatively friendly if you're able to meet them.

In either case, i greatly enjoyed the rather deep and complex storyline, and the overall theme of the game which cleverly outlined various fallacies of randian objectivist philosophy, whilst ironically presenting itself as an objectivist work of art in itself, with its metaphysical value-judgement being the critique.

One thing that i thought was slightly disturbing is that the game (almost) literally forces you to hunt down and kill the only non-hostile creatures available - in fact, not only non-hostile, but greatly protectionistic as well! In such a greatly hostile environment, encountering creatures that don't want to gut you on sight is remarkable. However, i cannot count how many times i have been reminded that it would be VERY DIFFICULT OMG to survive if i wouldn't harvest/rescue the little sisters, and thus not kill the big daddies...

Depends how you play it. If you take your time and explore the levels at your leisure, 20+ hours. If you take a linear path and just play the game, 10-15 hours.

I love this game, and thanks for no spoilers guys. Just finished the Cohen level, and was amazed throughout. The scares aren't quite up there with FEAR, but the whole thing is unsettling and brilliant throughout. Best game since HL2.

I finished it off also; went good all the way. The good ending is very touching and I had loads of fun with telekinesis (reminds me of the gravity gun, vaguely). You can have plenty of fun without an extra 40(?) adam every level; but you probably wont indulge yourself in upgrades until 3/4s in the game.

I've beaten it, and it gets significantly more fun when you gather more plasmids. Winter blast and telekinesis make for some fun items. Freeze and smash gets so fun that I never need ammo.

Getting the research camera and then taking photos of enemies so you can gain bonuses, that's when things get fun.

Ending is fun too. All I have to say is think twice about whether or not to harvest any little sisters you come across.

I bought the game earlier today for pc, game lives up to ALMOST every expectation I had. It's just a little hard to be creative with killing with the security cameras and turrets guarding much of the area. Still, fighting big daddies is real fun.

I tried the pc demo yesterday and it's kinda too short to say much. The first playable scene is pretty amazing though and it really is scary on a few parts. It lives up to the fact you have many choices in killing your enemies so far.

The thing that I really like is the whole game design. It's like a mix between the 60's, doom 3 and a bit of fallout all thrown into a decaying underwater city.

Graphic reqs aren't very bad, but you probably won't play at full w/ high res without a good 7 series or ATI equiv card. Still, the game is fairly forgiving in that area, not as forgiving as Half Life 2, but it's still reasonable.

Too true about the GF7 series. It purred on it on my laptop at high resolutions, with every thing besides Dx10 maxed out of course :).

Awesome demonstration :D.

He could block lasers with his lightsaber. He could levitate droids & rocks & crap with his mind. Come on, he choked two pig dudes with just a simple gesture. He cut off Darth Vader's hand and kicked him down a flight of stairs. He got his @$$ zapped by lightning from the geezer Emperor, stood up and said "s'at all you got b!tc#??"

indeed. one of my biggest concerns is the problem most of the new games have - if you set graphic detail to lowest possible , the game will look like crap , much crapier than some old games, but will eat your pc none the less. sure as far as i know this game is a graphic wonder, but i dont want to have uber lag just because they added some little detail here and there which eats ur fps.

I played the demo on Xbox Live. Fantastic! Without spoiling too much, some of the water and fire effects are off the charts - I thought I was watching a movie at some point. Water is a prominent element in this game and watching a chamber slowly flood is... well, you've never seen something like that before in a video game.

It was very fantastical - great art design. Great characters. Very dark though - don't let your small kids play this one. :) So yeah, if you have an X360, free demo on Xbox Live!
