Yeah. It was leaps and bounds ahead of its predecessor. However, that doesn't say very much. AvP:R stands alone with other movies, though, that's for sure. I'm not sure how I stand with the level of acting, but the writing was far, FAR better so that helps a lot.

They treated the Aliens more as they should be treated, too. Feral Space Ninjas, rather than mindless zerg-rushers. The Predator was better in every way, as well - both in design and action.

All-in-all I give it a reluctant thumbs up. Wasn't the best movie but still watchable.

saw it last night.
as a tr00 hater of the first avp movie i could say that avp 2 was much better

better and more innovative action scenes,
lack of good actors wasnt a problem since (atleast for me) predator was the main hero (and villain at the same time tho lol).
there will definitely be avp3. or should i say...gvpva - government vs predator vs aliens.

Just saw this today, bloody awesome. I thought the final battle could have been a little better, it kind of left me wanting more but it was still a good flick.

Good movies or not is a matter of personal taste. You can judge a certain movie on a set points if you so wish it. But most people judge a movies quality by the way they experience it.

The Predator movie wasn't a success because of it's amazing story.

Do you know how many other films were released, before and after Predator, that had similar premises? Aliens arriving from far away to hunt and kill humans, invisibility technology and amazing gadgets... the list goes on.

The reason Predator was a success was because of the atmosphere. The original Predator movie set up an unmistakable atmosphere of camaraderie and managed to successfully flesh out the characters -- so that you actually gave a rat's ass what happened to them -- with a minimum of blatant character exposition.

The techniques used in Aliens vs Predator were so heavy-handed, obvious, and cliché that it completely failed to succeed where its predecessors shone. "Oh look at me I like taking photos look I have kids oh please empathize with me!"

That's what happens when you have a director who specializes only in action movies attempts to develop a character.

Aliens, and to a lessor extent Predator, were less about action and more about suspense. They were as much about building up to the action as they were to actually generating it.

The build-up in Aliens vs Predator was weak, at best. There was little suspense and little of the "horror" aspect to it that made the Aliens series so successful. To take that out is, in my opinion, a disservice to the genre.

Not only that, but the movie was a swiss-cheese mockery of itself with plot-holes. From egg to full-grown Alien in an hour? Please...

Not only that, but look at how grossly unprepared the Predators were for the Aliens. "N00bs" or not it completely destroyed the image of the Predator that the previous movies had built up, which disappointed me greatly.

Tack on to that the alteration in predator design -- from relatively lithe and dextrous aliens to massive, chunky meatheads... and it's enough to make a true Predator fan shed a tear.

In fact, I can't name a single thing they did right in AvP. The Predators were just... completely nothing like the Predators from the prior movies. The character development was sparse at best and nobody gave a damn when people got killed. The Alien lifecycle was pretty much ignored. The only battle between the Predator and the Alien was short and fully of shakycam (which is, admittedly, a personal pet-peeve of mine). The faux-romance story between the Predator and the human woman was just... lame.

Sorry girl, you're no Ripley. Not to mention that using the Alien's head as a shield was 1) silly, and 2) it never ended up being used anyway.

The only thing positive I can say about the movie is that the Aliens behavior stayed somewhat true to the previous movies.

I've read the script review for AvP2 and it's basically an insult to fans of the crossover. I'm going to go beat my head against a wall, now.

while i agree with that, avp was even worse.

that was my point .. they have no story they are popcorn flicks

ANd since when do popcorn/entertainment flicks need to convey something to remember?

Last I checked, entertainment movies were there to take your money for 2 hours of escapism.

And recent horror movies have turned into a p***ing contest out of who can get the most gore out of an 18 certificate.

because some movies arent ment to be remembered after you leave the cinema, they are called popcorn flicks and they serve to entertain you for the length of time they are on.

If you wanna remember the movie and feel touched by it, try movies like shawshank redemption, Green Mile, Forrest Gump and movies like that
Action movies arent suppose to be clever or deep in thought its about explosions, chases and shoot outs. Same goes for horror movies, they never have a story it has a simple little thing that allows people to get slaughtered for no deeply involving reason, recent horror movies are trying to be smarter, Saw as an example.

So seriously if you see on the front cover, Best action movie of the year **** EMPIRE magazine, it generally means its a popcorn flick.

AvP did what it set out to do, throw 2 good characters at each other.

hmmmm alien/predator movies were very cool.
enough story and depth, very entertaining also.

avp one however was for entertainment purposes only. like watch movie and then forget what it was about 5 mins later.

i have no idea how can you praise avp when it didnt have that precious half avp/movies had.
