Aight. I still feel like a 16 year old geek/boffin with a keen interest in gaming, warhammer, ect.
I don't feel old. I don't feel aged. I don't feel like i've lived very long.. Yet, it has just hit me that in a month and 3-ish days. I will be 19. Which is one year away from being 20. *screams in fear* Now, so this isn't a pointless post. Has anybody else ever felt quite weird about turning a certain age? Casham Does this work in reverse? Cause I constantly feel a lot more mature then everyone else my age (Sometimes even my sister who is 20), even though I am barely 18. To stay on topic though, I have never really felt weird about aging. In fact, I have always welcomed it. I don't think it's the age per se, but certain things that are expected to happen at certain ages. Naturally it's up to you if you want to go along with those expectations.
For example, I wasn't particularly enthusiastic about turning 18, but I was thrilled about finishing school, getting my own apartment and applying for higher education. Most of my friends were waiting to turn 18 because that meant they could buy beer. Well I had been buying beer already for a long time mainly because of my turbulent beard growth that made me look like some sort of neo-Aristotle. After turning 18, years just became a blur and birthdays came and went almost without noticing. At some point you just realise that instead of organising your memories by certain years or ages, you start categorising them by events and feelings. And soon you can't even place those chronologically, but your life will be divided into approximately three "eras": 'baby to end of school', 'end of school to now' and 'baby to now' (which includes all sorts of stuff that you find hard to place in any specific moment in time). Of course some people might have better memories or just far more interesting lives than me, but this is roughly how my brain works. At the moment I'm really looking forward to turning 30, since I've heard all sorts of stuff about how horrible it's supposed to be and I want to dispel that myth. If you feel like you're not mature enough to deserve turning 18, 19, 20, 21, etc., just act like you're still 16 (or whatever age you deem your maturity at) and I'm sure no one will spot the difference! Kinda the opposite with me; I always felt as if I'm a lot older than I really am. Juggling living alone, work, college and the basics of life; the last three years felt like a decade. I actually feel 29ish and not 19. Hopefully after this year I can work my way down to 20 with less class time and more me time. _______________ "Deos fortioribus adesse." |

I've had a point where getting older felt like life rushing by me - and then I realised my problem wasn't age, it was me. I had to get busy. I did, and ever since that happened birthdays haven't bothered me anymore. |
