First they changed the color of Santa's suit to red, and now they are changing him into a bunch of trucks?
One of the biggest lies perpetrated by people who hate corporations and commercialization, which is kind of funny since that's what santa is about. http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/santa.asp Reading there you'll note that the standardized Santa in a red suit was being established the decade before coca-cola use him in advertisements. And since Santa Claus is partially based on Saint Nicholas: In Catholic iconography, Saint Nicholas is depicted as a bishop, wearing the insignia of this profession: a red bishop's cloak, a red miter and a bishop's staff Mwyeah, that's indeed all true. But somehow it's also fascinating. How a company like this can let a whole country / world,.. well let them believe in such a thing.. and make so much money out of it btw in The Netherlands and Belgium we have 'Sinterklaas' (like indeed Saint Nicholas). At school they used to tell us also that years ago he was a bishop, BUT now he's living in Spain xD and has 'zwarte pieten' (black people climbing on the roofs and through the chimneys and helping him with putting presents in the children's shoes (no racism involved ). The good old man is also about 400 years old !!! . And onces a year he comes down from Spain with a boat full of presents and black 'piets' to make the children happy. We used to celebrate this already before Santa was introduced by Coca Cola . But in the end the whole story comes from that one bishop who lived a few centuries ago and helped people by giving them food etc (I think ^^') Well its not exactly hurting coca cola if people believe that they change the santa suit to red. So if its not hurting them no need to waste money saying "no no no, we didn't come up with the idea we just borrowed it." And they likely did help with spreading the image. Its like the myth of Chevy Novas not selling Latin America because it is similar to "No Go" in Spanish. Not hurting Chevy today so need need to spend money on it. Its really fascinating how stuff like this becomes the history in spite of it not being true. You've got Sinterklaas, England has Father Christmas, and Germany has the Christ child. And you've likely got the American version of Santa Claus evolving from all those variations due to the immigrant populations mixing together here. _______________ When you are going through Hell, keep going. -Sir Winston Churchill.
