So I got a computer last month and now I have a problem. I'm connected to the Internet by a Linksys Wireless USB Adapter. I'm upstairs, and our main computer with the desktop and Linksys Router is downstairs. Ok so after I set my comp up and started playing Jedi Academy for about 2 weeks, everything was fine. But after about the third week, I started to get random lag during games, and while surfing the internet. For example in Jedi Academy I would be able to play normally for about the same amount of time (thirty-forty seconds) and then I would get 999 ping and get Connection Interrupt for about five seconds or so. While I surfed the web it was harder to notice but it was still happening, when I switched to a different page sometimes it would take FOREVER to load. Basically, when I use anything that connects to the internet, I get random irritating lag spikes. Sometimes I connect to AIM/MSN/Xfire when the lag strikes and it doesn't let me connect or it disconnects me. I'm on Comcast Cable now because my old company (Wave Broadband) got bought out by them. When I found out I thought instantly it had something to do with that, but my laptop which is also connected to my downstairs desktop wirelessly was working perfectly fine. JKA was fine and so was the Internet in general. I called Linksys and they gave me some instructions to follow like the PowerCycling method, re-installing the wireless adapter drivers and making sure the Linksys adapter program and the Windows connection thing weren't clashing, which I did. Right now I am completely stumped and the problem is still here. I can't hardwire the Internet connection because running a 100 foot cable through the house and or/drilling holes into my wall is definitely not happening according to my mom. If anyone knows anything about this or has an idea, your help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

I had a linksys usb adapter and after about a week of use, it stopped working!1! I blame it got too hot because when I touch it, it felt like a A/C adapter for a completely drained laptop. So I got myself a linksys pci card and it still works this day. But I also get this random lag spikes and junk. I'm thinking someone's stealing your bandwidth or you have someone in your house networked to it besides yourself. Also try moving the router somewhere else, so theirs less interferance. And if that fails, wrap aluminium around your adapters attenna if you get the card. Doesnt work well for me but I heard it does for some.

So your computer still had the same problem even after a direct connection? I suppose this would be hardware or software related. Hardware would be the last resort problem where you would have to turn in your motherboard (kept the warranty?) for a replacement. New motherboards these days fail almost as much as the xbox360.

Switch to SafeMode w/ Networking and try to do what usually causes the network slowdown. If it still happens then it's likely to be hardware related. If not, then you can probably point out what software/driver is causing this.

Also did you update your motherboard drivers?

last night i took my comp downstairs and switched the main internet cable to my comp or w/e and it was fine for awhile. the internet was fine, jka was fine but then i tried to test out some web pages it would not load. i never had that problem, and my comp was hardwired. absolutely nothing would load on the page, so then i restarted and surfed the interenet and it was fine, played jka and it was fine but then i tried to surf the internet after i closed jka and it was messed up again. then i restarted AGAIN, and i started up xfire/aim and they were ok, but when i closed xfire and tried to start MIRC, i had no connection again.
