Anybody else looking forward to WAR? I'm pretty giddy for it myself.

I was not at all interested in Warhammer until a number months ago when a friend from Moon Guard and I were brooding over the suckiness of WoW (well, my friend was just worn out by it and I just hate the game! :D) and were looking for other MMOs to suit our fancy. When I took the time to actually peek about the Warhammer site I found myself going, "Huh... This is actually pretty cool."

Dark Age of Camelot, also developed by Mythic, was my first MMO and I had more fun playing that than I ever had playing WoW. For people who say that Warhammer's playing too much like WoW, well, WoW has similarities to DAoC, and I'm sure that DAoC has similarities to EQ. You have to consider the genre; if you say that the gameplay in a fantasy MMO is too much like the gameplay in another fantasy MMO, that's like complaining that the first-person-shooting in an FPS is too much like the first-person-shooting in another FPS. There will always be similarities within genres of games, there's no avoiding that.

As far as the game itself goes, from what I've read I get a feeling that you are actually doing something, not just grind grind grind for no reason whatsoever. The Tome of Knowledge, which is both like an Xbox 360 Achievements System and lore reference, seems like something pretty nifty, as well as public quests and Realm vs Realm... and 24 classes! (12 per faction, 4 per race.) I particularly enjoy the fact that you can choose between both PvE and PvP to level up from level 1 onwards, so you can just basically progress in whichever manner tickles your fancy at any given time. ;D

I'll be rolling Disciple of Khaine, witch hunter, dwarf engineer, elven blademaster, white lion, witch elf, Chaos magus, and possibly Black Guard! Gogogogo.

And these screens make me hot.

Its sort of like resilience and arena gear. Once you have it, the game is balanced again. Everyone having it is like everyone not having it.

the thing about wow that makes it stand out is , its been around for along time, communities have risen from it and thats what keeps people playing, if my friend jules didnt play and we didnt pvp together or raid i wouldnt play it. The game is crap without playing with friends.

warhammer will get popular to you personally if u play it with friends no doubt

That's the same with all MMORPGs. Same as this place really, it's the community that makes it.

I am sure that you would enjoy WAR if you found a good group of people to play with, but that same can be said for any game,

Thing is thats the case with most MMOG's. The main reason SWG still has the subscribers it does is due to its community, even back when I played that game many people I spoke to were primarily playing due to their friends and guilds etc.

An MMOG community is both its best and worst feature really.

It feels to me like a WoW clone in the Warhammer universe.

If you like WoW, you might like this, but both arn't to my taste. :)

The developmental decisions are Mythic's alone. I think the fact EA is so hands-off with the game might be why they were able to rename back to Mythic and dispose of the ugly EA Mythic.

I've played the open beta and have been playing the live game head start. There are so many things I can say about this game that I don't care to repeat because I've done so so many times, but all I'll say is that you guys who haven't been able to to play the game yet are going to love it. ;)

I am not sure how much of an impact EA had on the game. The kotor mmo is being made by bioware which is also owned my EA. So one can hope that EA's interference in both is minimal.

Isn't this published by EA Games?

I am not exactly hopeful given their track record. (Despite Mythic creating DaoC which rocked, the list of EA's fails is rather long ...)

Earth & Beyond - shut down
Hellgate - godawful
Motor City Online - shutdown
BattleTech 2125 - canceled
UO 2 - canceled

I would rather the content in the game be polished and balanced. If cutting out content is what it takes, I am not heartbroken about it at all. A smooth release is very important to sway gamers away from big games like WoW. AoC failed at that with a released version full of major bugs and horrendous class balance problems. Class balance is probably one of the biggest major problems the devs have had to face in making a game with so many classes like WAR, and if cutting them will allow for the game to be balanced, I am content.

My sentiments exactly.

Well, the release-withdrawal of 4 capital cities and 4 classes has made some people utter doomsday phrases, some complain about their sudden inability to play Warhammer, and some happy that they were finally able to find the excuse they were looking for to say that WAR will fare as well as AoC in release, that it's a failure of an MMO, that becoming part of EA doomed WAR from the start, and that it's the first MMO to ever, ever, ever cut content from release. Which is entirely untrue.

Everyone else sees it as both a smart move and a necessity to push for a Fall release. It'll all be patched in later (if they can't make the classes that were cut [Black Guard, Choppa, Hammerer, Knight of the Blazing Sun] more fun, then they'll introduce new classes entirely) so there's nothing to worry about! Most people are making this far more big of a deal than it actually is. :P

since Daoc brought so much to the genre i think there is hope for WAR too.

however while i like warhammer lore, some things just make me sick... like 'ork' design for example... looks simply idiotic. which kinda sux coz that would mean i wont be able to slaughter them as 'evil races'.

as for class id play... it would probably something that is very versatile... and ofcourse you wouldnt have to fear any 'assassin' type of classes. not sure what it would be in WAR tho :]

I will definitely be getting the game the day it comes out. I am leaning towards playing as a witch hunter.
