I was wondering if anyone in the academy has one of these. It translates Biosignals from your body into input for your computer.

Its a computer. You are not going to get any excersize out of moving a mouse around and the keyboard will give you carpal tunnel before you slim your fingers down. Stop raining on my parade. |

Well in Unreal 3 you're just aiming, moving and shooting. It is only complex to the computer, not to us. A game like Medieval Total War would be rather complex to us compared to most FPS' while not taxing the machine(computer) too much.
Although even simple tasks like that require concentration and you will often lose control of your actions. What BCI can effectively do for you is perhaps quickly switch weapons, execute simple macros without presets and do other short simple tasks. _______________ "Deos fortioribus adesse." I read an article about the NIA and the writter used the NIA in unreal tournament 3 so I think it could work on some more complicated games but then again maybye it only supports certain games. |

The technology is not meant to replace a mouse at this time. There are specific (extremely simple) games made for this hardware, but the real goal is for it to supplement the mouse and keyboard.
Until the medical applications of BCI devices have fully replaced our current methods in aiding physical disabilities, we probably won't see them gaining ground over mice and keyboards. So in short, it's not really worth it unless you're an ultra nerd. Such as myself! Although I wouldn't buy it. _______________ "Deos fortioribus adesse." |
