This looks good, I was a fan of the original series growing up as a kid. I never got in to the newer series but I'll certainly check this out.
Ya gota love James T Kirk

I am optimistic about it.

Breaking canon always happens, especially in details. This doesn't bother me as long as it works for the film and makes it more entertaining.

It's retarded changes to canon for no real purpose apart from a lack of research that is irritating in my experience.

Im a big star trek fan, but im not sure.

From the trailer it seems they're obviously trying to appeal to a much more 'not so nerdy' group of people. In which in seems to be becoming much more of a hollywood flick.

The mainstream wont accept it because star trek as a whole is a much more geekish affair, and in becoming a much more mainstream attempt at star trek its losing the more devoted star trek fans.

It's going to be hit or miss for Trekkies. People were screaming about how Kirk could drive a car when the trailer came out, because supposedly he couldn't in the original series.

So what? Science FICTION. Dur hur hur.

Oh well. It's going to rock and I can't wait.

Science fiction is especially reliant on canon.. So it should be the same as the original series.

That's a load of wank, canon will ALWAYS be inconsistent because there are so many writers. It's just the way it is. Trekkies need to learn how to ignore the old stuff when they watch this new movie. It's a re-imagining of the Trek idea by a different set of writers and a different director.

Seriously, I love Trek but the fans can be complete cockfags sometimes hahaha

When I first saw the trailer a while back I can't say I was happy. Watching Star Trek since I was 5 makes me kinda attracted to that geeky sci-fi appeal it had.

This movie seems like it would be fairly good, but it just doesn't seem like Star Trek. It's up for grabs though, if anything it might revive the franchise a little. I'll still watch and hope for the best.
