Potential TJA Newsletter/Email/Article. Your Thoughts. | |

Sup Y’all,
Just on the IRC and I had a total brainwave. Just wondering, would any of you be interested in receiving a monthly JA news letter. It would include stuff like; A list of every new member from the previous month. Most popular class from the previous month. (Think Dash is winning at the moment with his *sparkly * *new* yellow* *class* which was last week, held a staggering 17 people. Although Maher might beat him with his Fundamentals of Red Class). Maybe Monthly class list (Although that might be tricky as people schedules often change). Any recent news. New appointments (Whether they be Staff or JAK, JAT etc etc). Any up-and-coming events. (I say this as a few people who don’t check the site regularly didn’t realise that the there was recently a red only tournament and would liked to have taken part, however if they had know in advance it may have had even more numbers) And of course it would be open to any of your suggestions. I know people could check this stuff out on the site if they wanted to, but we seem to be getting spikes of activity and perhaps this could be a method of getting some more consistently regular activity. Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions. Obviously it would require your email address, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be too hard to set up a basic one, for the people who are interested to send their emails addresses to. Hope all is well! its coz most of the JAC were not really 'visually active' so when you became JAC it obviously looks like some activity is coming back.

The problem with articles is that the article writers eventually go inactive for a variety of reasons. This has obviously been observed several times in the past.
Easy solution: demote them and get new ones... What is the point of being staff if you aren't going to do anything? Why is everyone bringing this up now? It's obviously been an issue for a while, I'm curious why nobody spoke up until the last month or so. its coz most of the JAC were not really 'visually active' so when you became JAC it obviously looks like some activity is coming back. _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february. A monthly "newsletter" style article may well be possible though. _______________ Joined 16 October 2004 | Retired 10 April 2005 | Returned 05 June 2008 | Made Staff 27 June 2008 | Made Council 18 January 2009 Padawan To Odan-Wei Belouve | Adopted into the Belouve family | Twin to xAnAtOs | Owner of the 4th Quesi sexy badge Brother To Roan Belouve, Nomad, Majno, Silkmonkey, Kensei and Jarhok Belouve Owner Of Virtue's 1000th profile comment, Mr. Doobie's 1000th profile comment, Gradius' 2500th comment, xAnAtOs' 2500th comment, Rosered's 1500th comment, Laziana's 900th comment, Scythus' 500th comment and Echuu's 100th comment |

How about a section dedicated to showcasing someone or something, not unlike the forum we have here. One month could highlight someone who has a knack for making avatars, another month a retrospective on the talented mappers of the community... etc.
Not sure if there are enough members who have something to worth putting in that segment but it would be good for a few articles at least and might encourage more people to show their work? As to the nagging thing... I can see the idea needing a hook to draw them back. Some might return when they see this place isn't dead, but whether thats worth sending out a copy of the article to everyone is another matter. Still i'm sure something could be thought up? Oh and how about: Highlights from the Crazy stuff forum? A top 5 or whatever. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? Well yes an article then. I guess it is in the same vein of thinking. But what would you recommend putting in the article? Out of interest. Things mentioned over? Or something else? From what i understand, the whole point of sending newsletters would be to nag those people into activity who don't check this site very often, but still care, or at least remind them that this place is still up and running. If you just turn the newsletters idea into writing articles, you'd lose the nagging.
With that being said, i'm for articles. _______________ Find out more about the Jedi Academy Aurochs here and more about Masta here! Married to Kain. This comment was edited by Masta on Jan 22 2009 02:07pm. |

While I voted yes (its good to see new ideas and concepts that add something to the community), I would agree that it might work better as a regularly updated article (regular as in not updated every 6 months kinda thing). while masta has a point id definitely read things that you cant see normally when you open TJA website. statistics, a few words about what happened and an occasional interview would be quite fun to read.
Wouldn't it make more sense to actually get people to just update the damn articles? good point.. what would we like to see...hmmm something more from jak+ point of view to see that part of tja is still there. also something that would be interesting and useful for students. _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february. I just don't think it's very useful nor very interesting for me personally.
The poll is somewhat of a trap though - most of the people that have enough time and interest to check this thread and vote on the pool, most likely have noticed the other threads/news regarding activities, classes, appointments etc already. Unless you are one of the guys who checks this site once every couple of months, what use are newsletters to you? I'd personally be quite interested to hear why some of the more active members would actually want to receive a letter that tells them explicity about everything they already know of. On the other hand, is this idea going to help increase activity, or be useful for those people that care about this place, yet do not check the site very often? I'm not quite sure yet, but that's not what the poll is about. _______________ Find out more about the Jedi Academy Aurochs here and more about Masta here! Married to Kain. |
