Sup Y’all,

Just on the IRC and I had a total brainwave. Just wondering, would any of you be interested in receiving a monthly JA news letter. It would include stuff like;

A list of every new member from the previous month.
Most popular class from the previous month.
(Think Dash is winning at the moment with his *sparkly * *new* yellow* *class* which was last week, held a staggering 17 people. Although Maher might beat him with his Fundamentals of Red Class).
Maybe Monthly class list (Although that might be tricky as people schedules often change).
Any recent news.
New appointments (Whether they be Staff or JAK, JAT etc etc).
Any up-and-coming events.
(I say this as a few people who don’t check the site regularly didn’t realise that the there was recently a red only tournament and would liked to have taken part, however if they had know in advance it may have had even more numbers)

And of course it would be open to any of your suggestions. :)

I know people could check this stuff out on the site if they wanted to, but we seem to be getting spikes of activity and perhaps this could be a method of getting some more consistently regular activity. Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions. Obviously it would require your email address, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be too hard to set up a basic one, for the people who are interested to send their emails addresses to.

Hope all is well!

Cuthalion

So seeing as its partly discussion from here spilling over into other threads right now thought i'd bump this and ask: If some people are supporting the idea of demotions for inactive Staff members, is there anyone out there who would like to take up the mantle themselves?

I'm sure the official way of making it happen would be to go through official channels, but in the past that has led to one or maybe two article writers who eventually run out of steam. If, like this thread suggests, active members here believe TJA would benefit from an increase in the number of articles, even as a trial period, I'm wondering who out there would be willing to put in the hours?

Personally I would put my own name forward, however I am madly inactive on the servers and would want to make sure I would not just struggle to find time for it like others have in the past.

Any takers?

The problem with articles is that the article writers eventually go inactive for a variety of reasons. This has obviously been observed several times in the past.

Easy solution: demote them and get new ones... What is the point of being staff if you aren't going to do anything?

Yup.

less yepping more demoting.

Don't make me demote you! :P

I don't see you much on the servers. ;)

Edit: Also, we are demoting people. :P

The power of my suggestions is strong! Any ranked members have a problem with me? If so, you are next!

Doesn't need to be sent to people; there is an article system built into the site.

But how would older members know articles would be running? I still think perhaps 1 email to inform them of recent changes would be useful.

When I started to think that more specifically... We indeed have a article system at JA.net, but It has been inactive due to article writers are inactive and that's why we are looking for new staff members... lol!

Go me! :D

Anywhoo when It is taken to this perspective...
The E-mail thing; that old members would get recent information of JA.net... It is like begging them back... After all JA.net has found for totally volunteery work... So if people are that lazy, they don't care to even check the site... I say, Let it be...

Lets spare people from doing more work and focus to more important things, where we can spare our freetime more effectively...

Remember that 'shotgun' pattern, what I mentioned to you Cuth...

Yeah I still would rather use the desert eagle...

P.S I'm not gun maniac, I didn't just find better example pattern :D

This sounds like a good idea for a regular item for article writers. I'm sure everyone is aware we're looking for new article writers. The deadline for applications is in 15 days, so get applying if you haven't already :)

I imagine a lot of discussion about the articles would be posted underneath the article, but hopefully if we get several very active writers a sticky article thread might be worth looking into.

Indeed, the one thing I would suggest is maybe a newsletter article discussion thread, which can be updated when a new article is posted. While most regular users will notice the new article, its been known for even experienced members to miss one being added. Even with a home page post.

This way we would also be able to continue discussing what works and what dosn't about it between updates. With the comments on the articles page staying for the content of that particular article.

Everything, in my previous post was from peoples' previous posts, after I prssed ''Previous Comments''. But the topic strayed slightly, just wondered if the were any more ideas out there, which people may wish to voice, or perhaps a staff member could answer the question about contacting people?

If all that was to come then why don't we finally add a number navigator on our comment page so we don't have to keep pressing "Previous Comments" to see comments we had a long time ago.

Indeed. Ok so I’ve been rooting around talking to a few people. So far the general consensus is that the idea of a newsletter per se wouldn’t be right. But the idea of an article would be more accepted by the majority of the users in the JA. Ideas for / things it could include are;

A list of every new member from the previous month.

How about a section dedicated to showcasing someone or something. (Providing the show case was of someone, it would / could include an interview with that person, being asked a list of reasonable questions, perhaps providing by the readers).

Most popular threads, in the last month. E.g. Crazy Stuff Forum, Or the Q & A thread. Etc etc.

Most Popular classes of the last month.

A small section with the relevant site / staff changes (if any), and an appropriate link to them on the site.

Perhaps a section with impetus from some of the students. E.g. why they choose to join the academy etc. And although they could say on the forums. Room for improvement whether is be the site, the articles, anything.

Of course if anyone can think of anything else, please chip in as you have already.

One of the main difficulties would be sending the article to everyone, or who ever was interested. Perhaps if a generic email could be sent out to all active members of the JA asking whether they would be interested in receiving an article every month, if so please reply for the email address which it was sent from. Replying either Yes or No. Alternatively if there is no reply email then it would be assumed that you weren’t interested in receiving anything, and so an email article will not be sent to you.

THIS IS MERE SPECULATION, I don’t know how the site is run, so im not sure if that as actually possible. Otherwise an alternative plan would have to be devised.

Anyway as always your help is always greatly appreciated, so please carry on chipping in, and let’s stay on topic this time :)

The way this discussion is going perhaps is should go here. Its seems there are still alot of questions which students want to ask, and would like answers which, I'm sure we'd all appreciate. :D

That may just be me ofcourse.

Yes but It shouldn't be barrier to you as if you want improve the community... I have never gone to just stare at wall and wait that JAC comes active, every possible way... if I'm needing JAC that badly I go and spam their e-mails, shake their MSN, slapping them on the IRC, eating their cats and dogs... Just as long as they notice me...

Just look what happened out when you just brang ideas out ?

P.S

Psh, Virtue was active at the server, couple of days ago...

I personally dont want to talk to the council that much. The point is the forum, and the servers are where ideas are discussed as a whole.

Why is everyone bringing this up now?

It's obviously been an issue for a while, I'm curious why nobody spoke up until the last month or so.

You started to talk about 'visually active' which has nothing to do with that you can't express your opinion out, publicilly...

So

I pointed out more clearly that JAC is active even if they aren't seen at the forums, irc or servers... So they indeed hear their students wishes...

and Qin!

I see Virtue daily at the IRC...

EDIT:

and I see DJ_Sith weekly at the IRC :)

I very rarely see any JAC post apart from the two new guys. Extremely rarely. Let alone see them on servers.
