Global Agenda (free MMO-ish shooter) | |

I've been playing Global Agenda quite a bit since it went totally free-to-play. Look me up if you play or if you try it out, I go by LugnutUSA there. For those who don't know, GA is a sci-fi first/third person shooter with MMO-like qualities. There's really only one open area that resembles anything like a traditional MMO; a desert region that serves as an extended tutorial. By the time you finish all the "quests" in that region you'll have your first set of basic gear and a general idea of how to play your class. The majority of gameplay takes place in PvE or PvP instances...so at the point you finish up desert questing it turns into something resembling a more traditional class-based shooter where you play short team-based matches. It's a great casual game, as most PvE instances have a time limit of 15 minutes. For the long-term gamer, high level PvP includes an "agency vs. agency" mode where land conquest comes into play. The game is free with no subscription fees. "Free Agents", as they're called, earn mission XP at half the rate of "Elite Agents" (players who have made a one-time payment of around $20) and can't use the auction house or mail system...which isn't REALLY that crippling. I paid for the upgrade just because I was having enough fun I felt it was worth tossing a few bucks to the devs. So, yeah. If you check it out, look me up. _______________ http://steamcommunity.com/id/citizen059 |

lold. in last tournament more than half champions were used. more than quarter are niche champions. so that leaves about 1/5 of champions underpowered, some due to fail concept. anyway you are comparing 80 characters with 4. umad? also you admited that gameplay in GA is repetitive. limited features tend to get repetitive, but more easy to balance. just my 2 cents. _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february. Hello!
I've played some Global Agenda and here are the points worth mentioning: (-) Must pay if a going to play seriously (more than double rewards for missions), (+) Not too expensive at 16 €, (-) Gets repetitive fast (for me at least), (-) Extremely bad engine implementation (even if Unreal 3). Difference between highest settings and lowest settings is FIVE FRAMES per second. So not playable competitively on low-end PCs. Especially not when sniping (no optimisations in that department at all, it just laggs off), (+) Not many bugs (not that I've seen anyway), (+) Very nice in-game movement. Doesn't feel rigid/stiff, (+) Everyone gets a jetpack, (+) Impressive PvP balance (unlike games like League of Legends). (-) In PvP, the better team wins. At 10 people, if you get, excuse the term, complete retards, you won't win. (+) You get EXP and Money according to how well you did ingame and how long it lasted, NOT according to your team winning or losing. Note: I'm not saying LoL is unsuited for competitive play, it got into Intel Extreme Masters after all. The problem in LoL is that some champions are utterly useless, which plain sucks and is an imbalance. This comment was edited by Matej on Jun 27 2011 06:36pm. |

I've had no performance issues with it so I can't really speak to that. I got my current PC in late 2006.
As for the money issue, I can totally understand that. I've probably spent less than $100 on games in the last three or four years. Too many other bills to pay so I rely on free games for the most part. _______________ http://steamcommunity.com/id/citizen059 |

masta is right.
to enjoy the game with its simple features you have to pay. and when it comes to paying id rather buy something else. so ill never play global agenda :p ah i forgot to mention... its not exactly well optimized. i understand that witcher 2 with loads of graphic tricks can lag especially since even the video card makers didnt release fitting drivers for it yet. not to mention the game only received one patch so far. and it runs as well as... -competitive -mmo that shouldnt happen. i remember i played the trial last summer, tried it again when it went free - pretty much same performance. in forums i read that even such things as interface makes the game lag. do you know many games that get huge fps boosts if you turn minimap off? :| _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february. Quote: I've been gaming for a long time and it still surprises me how much people expect from video games, as though every title on the market is supposed to be "The Next Great Thing", and they quite frankly $#!t on it when they discover it isn't. GA seems to fall into this category, based on a lot of comments I've read in other places.
That's because time and money are limited resources and the opportunity costs are incredibly high for some of us.
It's too bad, because a lot of people miss out on a lot of fun as a result of this sort of attitude. The newest Medal of Honor title may have some worthy moments, but I could be playing so much better games in the meantime. And well, I will. _______________ Find out more about the Jedi Academy Aurochs here and more about Masta here! Married to Kain. |

I'd certainly agree with most of what you said. There's a REASON this game...which started out as a paid MMO model...is now a F2P game.
Most of the issues you mention really come into play when you're a long-term player who puts a lot of time into the game. And of course there will be other games that deliver a more polished experience (with more hats), but most of those games aren't free. I feel GA is a great "casual experience" type of game that you can have some fun with if you don't go in with world-shattering expectations. That's not to say it's a BAD game by any means. I'm having way too much fun for it to be classified that way. It's just not "Game of the Year" material. But that's okay! well PvP can be replayed many times. people play in the same map in dota, hon and league of legends for quite some time. counterstrike is played for many years now... but... PvE gets repetitive... and thats where global agenda is weird. its not instantly apparent that this is mainly PvP game and PvE is thrown there just for the lulz. only one questing area which you can finish in a few hours if you are very slow. how long this game is running again? years. amazing. not. the main thing that really put me off as a 'free agent' was lack of trading. a premium user can set up a shop and free agent cant - thats fine with me... but... even if you are premium user and you lets say want to buy insane ammount of materials... only other premium users will be able to sell those to you. thats basically wasting 95% of populations work power lol. so yeah dunno whats up with some recent free mmos placing limits on social aspects. atleast you can group here unlike in world of tanks lol. so yeah if you thought you can made the progress slowly with some friends and then trade with each other - forget it, unless you all buy premium thats not gonna happen. when it comes to think what i like... well... i only liked the suit customizations. notice how i dont even mention the combat and gameplay itself... its not worth mentioning really. its pretty average... if i wanted a team pvp game id rather go and play tf2. _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february.
