The Force-Can it exist if so how would it work

This was disscassed in part a while back with some great opinions.
For example java guy pointed ou that cus of newtons third law saying that every action must have an equal and oposite reaction, when yoda lifted lukes ship on the swamp thing he should have sunk into the ground.
But i think we have to read into more that yoda used the force he didn't move the ship himself.
So as the force is in the cells of every living thing (see eposode 1) then the oposite reaction on every living cell would be spread out so much that it would be unnoticible.

I have seen footage of very very skilled grandmasters of different arts hiting a brick with their finger, and about 5 seconds later it explodes into peices. Also one Grandmaster had 10 of his students try to push him but they couldn't. He explained he connected his "Chi" to the earth like roots on a tree.

Well, I will admit the word 'pyscis' are talked about in the Bible. It also says not to do that though, from lots of looking around, my guess is magic is related to physcic, only you 'think' your using your mind and really it is spirits (most likely evil spirits disillusioning you) do the work. Magic or phsycic or other supernatural stuff are most likely the same. The Bible also mention that listening to phsycics or 'fortune tellers' (not in those exact words) would mess you over. ( there have been historical events where people's palm reading came true only because they were paranoid that it would come true ) Now I may have typed some foolish stuff here and not know, but we have entered a very touchy subject that can be related to religion just to let you know. (or maybe I had it come to that, sorry if that is the case) Star Wars is fiction and what is consider to be "The Force" obviosly does nto exist, now other supernatural stuff... that can be a touchy subject. ( there are even secret military program to train people to move objects through telekinessis and be able to drive a car with your eyes closed. This is of course second hand rumour though.) I would also like to state that my friend did use to live in a house with a spirit in. ( I do not really need to get into detail, it is supernatural and a bit complicated and I am not wise enough to discuss such a thing properly )

In Thai Chi you try to channel your "Chi" which is considered the life force.
Also I was reading about Pythagoras the ancient Greek Philosopher/mathamatician/creator who had a school and taught what we consider modern mathamatics. A fairly affluent would be student (I forget his name) grew up dreaming of joining his school but was turned down. He eventually gained political power and retuned later with an army and killed most of the current students and forced Pythagoras to flee the country and teach in secret.
Sound familiar?

Mitochondria were seperate organisms many millions of years ago but where absorbed into the cells of animals in a symbiotic relathionship. The cells provide a safe place and an energy source, the mitochondria produce the energy that cells use to transport proteins. Mitochondria are passed down by the mother, and scientists are searching for a biological 'Eve' by tracing mitochonrial DNA. Here's a picture of the bugger:

George does borrow a lot. You can see that he even borrowed from the teachings of the Bible (especially in Episodes 4, 5 and 6.) The dark side is more powerful in the physical realm but the light side is about more than this life. "Crude matter" Yoda called it in episode 5 referring to the body. The Jewish people thought that Jesus was going to free them physically from the Romans but according to the Bible he was here to save souls. And the kingdom he talks about being established is not on earth. "You can't possibly win Darth. Strike me down and I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine." (I might have gotten that slightly wrong.) So I think that because he did borrow so much, from several sources, that the force does actually exist in several forms. But I can’t lift my car with it hehe.

oh yes, on martial arts - what else do they train - your 'ki'. in one sence, yoru ki could be the force, if you think about it ;)

edit: Mitocondria are parts of the cell, i belive they are the 'powerhouse' of the cell, but i cant remember

Corran I don't remember where I heard it, but I beleive the midichlorian theory was based on a similar theory.

Somewhere I remember hearing about Mitocondria, another single celled organism that lives in our cells.

Oh, as I write this I do remember where I heard it now. It was a game called Parasite Eve. I don't know if it's true or not.

We all know know that George Lucas begs, borrows and steals nearly every aspect of the SW mytholgy from that of real life , the parallels from the force, races, architecture, names , design are all takens from various creeds and cultures, some commonly known, others more obscure .

George has taken the central concept of a higher power (central to all religions) and simplfied it into 'The Force'.

Since SW is a action based sci fi fantasy , 'The Force' is what gives some of his characters the ability to do fantastical things.

Never forget this is fiction people, but another interestting aspect of SW is where GL draws his inspiration from .

Heres an interesting point of view: The force exists, but since none of us have any midichlorians in our body we have no knowledge of it. We know we have no midichlorians because they are single celled organisms, too big to be unnoticable by scientists, who haven't found them.

note: this is not my point of view ;)

I don't think the Force really exists. I believe something similar could exist. You have to believe in psychics and ghosts and that kind of stuff though.

Oh sweet god. You believe the Force is real and everything may be connected by midicloridians?

Everything is connected? Quite possibly, considering every living thing derived from a single celled organism. But something which people can channel to...jump super high...no.

Take Yoda for example, he was nothing without the force. Without it, he wouldn't be able to do anything. Martial artists don't use the force, they use skills acquired through training.

Anything is possible but c'mon!

about the force
there is a force, something that connects everything together. may it be from meticlorians or not, there is something that binds us all together. however, in most of us, this force is very weak - we have almost no control over it. Only the very gifted, or some martial artists (aikido) have developed this force to an extent where it is useful. It is still there for everyone, but not everyone feels it.

I havent read any EU stuff, but I thought the Mitaclorians were from the books?

Also... there is a force, and you can control it.
However, in the non-movie worlds, the force isnt light and dark, its just 'grey'

I think the thingie Javaguy talks about doen't count (I know something about physics). Because, you are relocating molecule, lifting them. And if you want a counterforce, think about the mastery off the force you have. You let all the molecules in the area take that force upon them. And, there is so much unexplained in the universe, you've got to have an opened mind. I really like the new books with the Yuuzham Vong, there the force is described masterfull.
