Everquest 2 has gone free to play. 
http://store.steampowered.com/app/201230 All semi-modern systems will run it on nice graphics settings, so the barrier to entry is low. I'll be creating at least a "Jedi Academy - Jedi" guild, and a "Jedi Academy - Sith" guild. Let me know if you're interested in any leadership roles! A little bit of background - EQ2 is set in the world of Norrath. It's pretty much like Star Wars Galaxies pre-CU, with professions and classes. If you don't look too closely, the world looks pretty much like Tatooine. If you want to play a Jedi, the swashbuckler class is free, and pretty much the same. I look forward to seeing you all there! You'll only ever go free to play when its not in the companies best interest to charge you for your game time. WoW and Swtor will obviously make gazillions from being sub based and will continue to until ( WoW specific but change wow to tor to apply it ) A) WoW 2 comes out ( TITAN :p ) B) Massive player loss which will reduce servers and overheads to the point at which F2P because a viable option to keep the game alive. _______________ If you add me to MSN, tell me who you are

SWTOR is on quite a different level than the games being mentioned here so far. we will see. imo f2p stuff is reaching such heights that even swtor is not immune to this. some years ago you wouldnt really think games to even consider half-f2p or f2p models. like team fortress 2, lotro, ddo, dc universe, wow (unlimited trial, but it partly counts), apb, lineage 2, everquest 2, aion, age of conan, heroes of newerth, tribes universe, global agenda and many many more. from the looks of it this movement is becoming more and more massive. some of the mentioned games are not insane quality games, but they are still affecting the market. for example there is this league of legends game, doesnt matter if you think its garbage or not - it became so popular that it forced heroes of newerth(previously thought to be rather immune to league of legends influence) to become f2p. id dare say even such masters of quality like valve will have to do something about their dota 2, which is rather obvious from leaked screenshots of various cosmetic items (like hats doh). same with swtor, the biggest enemy out there will be guild wars 2, which from the looks of it will be very high quality, but without monthly fee. the competition is massive, the future might bring many unexpected things. _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february. f2p is a new craze now.
every average game goes sub-based for half year and then goes f2p. so i guess swtor should go to some half-f2p model in 1-2 years. as for everquest 2 f2p model... well i always hated those models where you have class restrictions. restrict some areas, extremely useful, but optional features, exp bonuses etc, but not the main features of the game. giving access to classes that every other game has is definitely a bad way to advertise the game. _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february.
