If I don't get my game fixed soon, I'm quitting and not looking back. I've been thinking like this for a few days and since most people here seem to be complaining about something or other I decided now is the time.

I'm tired of this play for 10 minutes and restart ****.

I've been shooting e-mails back and forth with LucasArts tech support and Gateway.

Does anyone know why my game might be freezing up randomly? (Not drivers, not DirectX, not startup programs, not video settings.)

i now have the same problem :(

comp just freezes after some seconds of JK2 (on publics) or just after a random time (JA servers). i didn't change ANYTHING, no pk3s, no versions, no hardware... nothing!

i figured out when i play in window mode i can "save" my comp from crushing with the ctrl+alt+del combination. thats not too much fun though.

i'm running win98 SE, 500 Mhz Athlon, TNT2 Ultra from Asus, gigabyte mainboard, 256 PC-100 RAM... and it worked fine over half a year!

aah! if anyone else had this problem beside mindofsin, i would like to hear how YOU solved it (or not solved it ;))

thx

It could be the update since all computers are a bit different and there is just something that doesn't agree with your computer.

I tried getting an earlier version and set my 3 year old cousin loose on some bots earlier in version 1.03 He played for a few hours and didn't lock up.

Also, when I had the Single Player from Kazaa before I bought the full version for multiplayer, it was perfect.

Could it be the update???

I had problems with my comp a while after a bought more RAM. At first, couple of weeks, it worked fine but then my comp would just freeze, no blue screen, no even mouse movement, but the screen didn't go black either. It didn't matter what program was running it would freeze after about an hour.

I tried different RAM, Hardrive and computer testing software but they didn't find any problems.

I read somewhere that I should check the BIOS settings for RAM speed. And I did. I tried different RAM speed settings Auto/Normal/Fast/Fastest.

It was on Auto then I switched it to Fast and it didn't freeze anymore but the game performance wasn't very good, jittering sounds, so I switched it to Fastest and all the problems dissapeared :D

cooler = colder, not sweeter! :D

look on the chip itself. you should have a fan on it. if you didn't, your computer would have burned to the ground long ago... :)

CPU isn't cooled!?!
How the hell is it still working then?

PS
That thing that looks like a fan on your CPU is in fact a "FAN" otherwise known as a cooling device.:D:cool:

CPU isn't cooled. I haven't overclocked it or anything.

Intel (Essex) Pentium 4 - 2.53 GHz (533MHz) R3

Nope, not in any other games.

Without looking at all the comments below... :)

How do you have your CPU cooled?
Whats the brand name and model of your motherboard?

Does this happen in any other games?

oh, know something comes back in my mind, it's not your problem, but pretty weird though:
I can only leave JKII once without freezing. means i can only change resolution once/load a mod once (autochange when u join a server works) or go to window mode once. other wise, when i'll do more often the game keeps running but the third time i go out my screens complety screws (lower resoloution, black stripes all over the monitor) and i can't do anything. unluckyly, just uiting JK2 counts as a leave. means i cannot got to window mode and change back, without screwing my PC with leaving JK2.
weird, and pretty annonying

and reinstalling windows isnt hard, it keeps all prgramms and data you had before, beside windows settings and drivers.

and have some more ideas:
-clear your temp folder+temponary internet files (subcategorys!!)
-search for *.tmp files on your complete disk
-defragmentate your disk (takes sometimes a day)
-run scandisk
-open the task manager and try to run as few progs as possible
-search for a virus?
-try creating your own server
-try to play on the EU server! check the "server" site for details

i kept lagging out (game froze) today on the KS server while the others could play. oopen up console and type "reconnect" (without quotes). on Eu it doesnt seem to happen.

I had this problem before. MIND I don't believe it has anything to do with your system, but rather JKII. When I used to play on pubs, I could only go to CERTAIN ones. lol. Only one or two servers were safe to play on, on any others, I would get in for 5 seconds then freeze or restart. So I stopped playing for about 5 months and everything is all better =) I don't have a clue why waiting fixed it, it's the only reason considering JK worked for some servers and not others. It had nothing to do with patches or mods.

You wouldn't happen to be using the no-cd crack would you? I tried that a while back because I hate CD swapping, but it only works fitfully at best. It almost always gives some kinda error and kicks you out of games though.

Or are we talking a full computer lockup affair? In which case I'd be more inclined to blame some kind of hardware problem...

You never know what could be causing it. I was having trouble with warcraft 3. It said that directx wasn't initializing. I had installed direct x 9.0 and also had the newest nvidia drivers. I kept trying several different nvidia drivers. Finally found that uninstaller program to go back to my original version. I had the newest direct x driver and after searching around blizzards website I finally found the listings of video cards and what drivers to use with it. I'm almost certain I used that driver while directx 9 was on my comp as well, but I've learned my lesson about trying to upgrade microsoft programs. Microsoft Works: The ultimate oxymoron

I haven't heard of it happening with Jedi, but two things that I learned about when I was heavily into the sims.

1. Empty out the windows/temp folder, sometimes files in there mess with other stuff. It's a wierd thing.

2. Defrag the hard drive. Something as simple as this can have a major effect on performance.

Admittedly they probably won't solve the problem, they may help out though.

I'm pretty sure I had DirectX 8 before and got 9 trying to fix it.

I haven't upgraded or overclocked anything.

1) could it be the temperature? freezing can be a sign of too hot CPU

I doubt it considering I can sometimes play for an hour or two with no problems while other times after just turning on the computer I only last a few minutes.

2)reinstall windows, get all latest drivers. maybe you have some old driver fragments anywhere left on ur harddisk

Re-install Windows? That sounds like a lot of work :| Last ditch attempt. I have all the latest drivers.

3) make sure u uninstalled directX correctly. maybe check the directX setup if any problems are listed
Yeah, Jason at LucasArts tech support got me to do that. It's fine.

4) clear your background applications, no firewalls, filesharers and stuff

Tried it.

5)try in window mode (alt+enter)

I'll have to try that.

6)try lower resolution

Tried playing in Safe Mode.

7)clear your base folder (not too much pk3s)
8)deinstall all mods

Did those two after re-installing the game.

9)check other games, especially eith quake3 engine

Half-Life and mods work. Delta Force works. GTA3 works.

10) pray

Tried already. God, Allah, Buddah, the Force, etc. None of these beings offered support. Still praying.

Thanks.

http://www.3dcenter.org/downloads/directx-dx9uninstaller.php

You need your original XP CD for this procedure. The instructions in the
Zip file are in English. Also make sure you read the readme. It says to do this in safemode. I did it and it got rid of directx 9.0 for me

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=fi&lr=&ie=UTF-8&group=microsoft.public.directx.misc

This is the site I got the uninstall file from. Thanks whoever sent this thread. There is a thread in there about directx 9.0 incompatiblity with GeForce 4 graphics cards.

Hopefully Im wrong...
