Sup,

For gaming I use Winblows XP Pro.

For actually doing "anything" I use FreeBSD,
but I have also used OpenBSD which is 133+ but makes a much better server than workstation.

And dont forget NetBSD, just in case u have an old dreamcast ur not using. :)

I hope to buy a G4 with OS X soon, then I will be able to play JKII and write Perl programs/scripts

The last true DOS was in Win98, although WinME had a mangled version of it. I think you're confusing FAT 16 and FAT 32 with 16 and 32-bit operating systems. FAT16/32 are file system types, 16-32 bit are instruction types. DOS/Win3.1 (without the win32s enviornment) was 16 bit. Win95 and above is 32 bit. There are 64 bit versions of win2k, xp, and of course bsd/linux for those lucky enough to own a 64 bit proc. :)

And DOS days WERE the best. Back when getting the most conventional memory free so you could run apps was an ART. You actually had to know what an IRQ was and whatnot in order for your games to work. *sigh*

I believe you're right Broda.

I still remember when DOS was THE operating system. You had to actually know about computers to use them. The only windows back then were made from glass!

Actually, Vaughn, the Command Prompt in XP, 2000, or the MSDOS prompt in NT are only DOS shell environments. These just provide a pseudo DOS interface. This is due to the fact that DOS is a FAT16 operating system. Even in Windows 98SE, which was FAT32, the DOS interface was only DOS in a limited form. I believe, the last true DOS was incorporated in Windows 95 but I could be wrong. I'd have to consult the CompTIA A+ resources that I have.

The joyous utopia I call OS X Jaguar. I was a windows man for many a years then I saw a light in the dark tunnel, I said to myself I can't do that there isn't the support, variety, and all the propaganda that windows filled my head with. I was sitting there restarting my computer for the whatever time that day and I thought there has to be a better product. There has to be something that I can use without having all this crap. That day I headed straight for the light and have never looked back, loving every precious minute I get to use the computer rather than fix it. I am just giving my story.

About compatibility I try to steer clear of any windows thing but if I must I have a program to emulate windows and use that. Much like I assume the winux (not sure) for linux.
