I just saw one of the best movies I've ever seen in my life. It's called "So Close" and it was directed by one of my favorite directors, Cory Yuen. Some of his best work to date as far as choreography too (AWESOME katana sword fight.) The story was great and it had two of my favorite actresses in it (Shu Qi and Zhao Wei.) The movie should be out in theaters in the U.S. this fall. I’m sure I’ll go see it in the theater even though I have it on DVD. They are kinda’ advertising it as a Charlie’s Angels clone but it has a much deeper story than that. Here is the website: http://www.so-close.com/ P.S. Personally I’m happy when different cultures influence each other’s art. That’s what helps improve it in my opinion. What I hate is when people say Hong Kong movies are “matrix-ish”. The matrix is really “Hong Kongish”, not the other way around. It just took the success of the Matrix for the big studios to realize that it might be worth importing a few of these movies. _______________ One of the Belouve boys |

man everyone steals ideas. originality is hard to come by in todays world. frankly i dont care about people stealin stuff. as long as it all still looks cool. i will admit though i am gettin tired of all the action movies out there coming out with "matrix" type moves. i miss fighting were it didnt involve strings. then again, nothing beats a good ol fashion super hero style fight with shit breaking and blowing up everywhere. Theres a guy in my local mall who sells import hong kong movies. i would buy alot but he usally sells em for $30 a pop. thats kinda lame. plus most of em come on all the international channels my parents have with their digital cable. Dead or Alive was pretty wacky as far as films go..ten minutes of madness for an introduction and a rather odd ending..very fun. But my favourite foreign films titles are: Battle Royale Ring Audition Shaolin Soccer Doberman  _______________ Sith Sith Sith Sith Sith... |

Anything you see in the Matrix that looks cool was stolen from Hong Kong movies or Anime (or a combination of both.) American cinema steals from Hong Kong then they steal ideas from American cinema and it makes this beautiful circle that refines the art and makes it better and better with each revolution. I can think of a dozen Hong Kong films that not only have better action but much better acting then The Matrix. I have Shaolin Soccer too. It was the largest grossing film in Hong Kong last year. It's a good movie, but it's not as good as "So Close". I personally don't like watching dubbed anything. I much prefer subtitles. During the dubbing process they sometimes cut out a lot and even change a lot of the meaning. That sucks. Hey Sinestro, what are you studying? There is another movie not real famous that is coming out that press is freaking out about because it has matrix effects. It is called "Shaolin Soccer" and it is incredible. I watched it in my Elements of Moving Image class and it is one of the best movies ever. It will be in theaters this summer. It is soccer with kung fu and great special effects, I cant wait for the chance to watch it stoned, it is dubbed so it is that much funnier. _______________ Keep On Rocking In The Free World |
