-The following excerpt is taken from JRR Tolkien's classic novel, The Hobbit-
That was all he could think of to ask - the idea of eating was rather on his mind. It was rather an old one, too, and Gollum knew the awnser as well as you do. "Chestnuts, chestnuts," he hissed. "Teeth, teeth! My precious, but we has only six!" Then he asked his second: Voiceless it cries, Wingless flutters, Toothless bites, Mouthless mutters. -Flamori 1- _______________ «±» 21st on the Midbie Council, Profile ID: 2027 «±» True wisdom is the knowledge that you know nothing. |

the problem with that "proof" is that you can't just say a=b. that's just like saying 2=1. so basically you started with something false, so naturally you ended with something totally false. _______________ make install -not war |
Shannon -SC- - Student |
Try this:
It is given that: a=b So shoud a²=ab a²-b² = ab-b² (a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b) (a+b) = b a +a = a 2a = a 2 = 1 !!! Okay we all know 2 van't be one, but the term is solved right why is still 2 = 1 here! Ahh, Ioshee, your elusive $30 question: well, I know the answer to it .
See, it never was a $30 question, the three men actually paid $27 for a $25 room, and the $2 difference the manager pocketed. Hope thats clear enough |

That 30 dollar riddle is a hard one and does have several forms. I've heard it I think for some guys getting some pizzas for $30 or something like that. There is an answer for it. Unfortunately I don't remember it. There is also another math type problem where you draw a triangle with certain dimensions giving it a certain area. You then proceed to cut it up into rectangles and other triangles of specified lengths that appear to take up the full original triangle. When you add their areas however you lose half an inch. What happened to it?
My high school physics teacher told us this one, we drew it out on the board in exact dimensions and it leaves a tiny extra triangle in one spot that you wouldn't make if you just sketched it out. Sorry that I don't remember the dimensions otherwise I could tease your brains even more. Guess telling you that there is an answer to the $30 is enough. A tree falling in the woods would make a sound but unless someone heard it it would make no noise, since sound is just caused by vibrations in air. Sorry to double post, but i have some more stupid questions to boggle your mind...
What do vegetarians feed their dogs? Can someone give up lent for lent? Why would Dodge make a car called Ram? Why does a round pizza come in a square box? Why do they have 7 oceans when they are all connected? Why is it when we duck they call us chicken? Why is there a size 12-14, 14-16, 16-18, and so forth, but no 13, 15, and 17? What did cured ham actually have? If CD’s were spun in the opposite direction, would it say everything backwards? If lava melts rock, wouldn’t the lava melt the volcano? If a man has no fingers, can he press charges? Can a blind man see his future? Are children who use sign language allowed to talk with their mouth full? _______________ Brady Brothers: Orion-Greg, Furi0us-Peter, Me-Bobby. Long lost cousin to Flash. Midbie Council #007. I think a tree falling always makes a noise but does not make a sound unless someone is there to hear it.
Ok here is one (I think it has an answer but here it is anyway): Three guys are traveling and have to check into a hotel for the night. The room is only $30 so the three guys pay $10 each. A little while latter the manager comes in and reminds the clerk that they are running a special and that the room should have been $5 off for the three guys. The clerk takes five ones out of the register and starts to walk over to their room. On the way he thinks to himself “These guys can’t split $5 equally.” So he pockets $2 and gives them each back a dollar. Now each of the guys has only paid $9. Nine times three is twenty-seven plus the two dollars the clerk kept. That makes a total of $29 dollars. What happened to the other dollar? Sorry that isn’t very philosophical. _______________ One of the Belouve boys |

clapping: The action of clapping requires two hands to come together and smack the palms together and make a clapping sound. If a sound was not produced when this happened, it would not technically be a 'clap'. It might be a 'clasp' for example. There are other things that can clap however, such as a book. So one hand could clap a book closed and that would make a sound. This comment was edited by p][ke on Jan 09 2003 10:27pm. |

If a tree falls in the forest it will make noise, because noise is just vibrations of air, and that will still happen whether you are there or not.
A one handed clap is just a wave , so that is a trick question |
