A dot or full stop means a pause. Thats why people put them at the end of a sentence, to end the sentence. Hence also the name 'fullSTOP' when used in conjunction with other dots, it conveys an impression of 'carry on' 'erm riiiiiight' 'I don't understand' 'my finger is stuck on fullstop key' 'I'm trying to use morse code' Its also used as a form of etc, or to clarify a statement. For example "I'm gonna get you, sleep with you eyes open..........."
