I guess this has been on television, but I only watch about one hour of television per month, so it was new to me. http://home.attbi.com/~bernhard36/honda-ad.html This was _not_ a computer animation! The chain of events really happened, and it really was filmed in one continuous take! (Granted it didn't happen correctly until the 606th take.) More about it: http://www.dailytelegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2003/04/13/nhonda13.xml&sSheet=/news/2003/04/13/ixhome.html _______________ My signature is only one line. You're welcome. |

It's called an overbalanced wheel, and yes, of course it's possible. One point on the edge of the wheel is heavier than the rest, and you balance the wheel on the ramp with the heavy part balanced exactly on top. Even the merest tap from the down-ramp side will make the wheel roll up the ramp because the heavy part will then be on the up-ramp side of the wheel. Some people have tried to use this principle to make perpetual motion machines. It's impossible, of course, but very interesting nonetheless: http://www.lhup.edu/~dsimanek/museum/unwork.htm#wheels What I loved about this film was that each event was interesting in itself. Usually when someone does a Rube Goldberg, it's an impressively long chain of events, but the appeal is that the whole thing works rather than that any given component would be interesting in isolation. When I first started watching Cog I thought it was going to end after five or six steps because they had obviously put more effort into making it interesting than into making it long. But it just kept going and going. It's a two minute film, and the first time I saw it I spent the whole time thinking "It's going to end within the next ten seconds"--but no! It just keeps going and going and going and remains uniformly clever and entertaining right up until the end. _______________ My signature is only one line. You're welcome. |

http://www.thejediacademy.net/forums_detail_page.php?f_id=2285 Right there is where Icco posted it. Don't be so quick to think its fake Darth. go to that thread and read some of the things said. These types of devices are possible. And you can balance tires so that they'd roll up hill for a short distance when tapped. You'll notice that they do take some momentum to get started. _______________ When you are going through Hell, keep going. -Sir Winston Churchill.
