I posted this under Trekked's profile. I would like to see some people grow up here (and that includes ALL who have posted here, including me). Read on:

Hey bud,

I know we got a truce, so I'll stay out of the pic thing (by not DEMANDING anything from you, or taking any true side). I spent a full year studying the Holocaust, so I can see that people will take offense to your profile pic.

Yet I myself have a museum-worthy collection of Nazi items, including armbands from the Judenrat, Zippo Lighters, and one of the spoons from Hitler's bunker. I even have a Nazi iron rest (you pot the hot iron on it to cool off).

But I'm not a Nazi symathizer. I keep them becuse of the historical lesson that needs to be learned.

BUT...I do not display this collection in my living room where it may unintentionally offend someone. I do have German friends, and I would not risk placing this collection in their sight. It is far from anyone's sight, and they really need to specifically ask to see it.

So my advice, through truce:
Perception is reality. You may not be aiming to offend, but you may offend unintentionally. Whatever your true motives are are irrelevant, since perception is reality.

I would also advise not to polarize the issue. Really. If you don't make a huge deal of it, the issue may be less intense and people will accept it. But if you make it an issue, you will attract attention, polarize the issue, and find higher degrees of resistance, and inevitably have to change your pic.

So just my advice. I could tell you what to do, make demands of you, yell and kick and scream at you. But I keep my truces. I won't do such, but I find a friendship with you, so I should advise you as such, and you are free to do as you like.

This advising would not be complete without advising the other side to likewise not polarize the issue. Again, don't polarize the issue. Yes, Trekked may have been offended by someone else's pic in the past. Trekked may have forced the person to change it. This does not mean that Trekked deserves the same treatment, to have someone force the change of his profile pic.

There is the thought that turnabout is fair play. But that violates the rule of respect, which is what all of you will do Trekked, me, etc, if we polarize the issue. And by turning the same situation back around on Trekked simply because you can, shows that some are following the "turnabout is fair play." And that, is a breaking of the rule of respect.

I can collect Nazi artifacts, and no one has the right to attack my desire to preseve historical remanants and memories. But also, I have no right to not accomodate the feelings of those that might be offended by such a collection.

Point is, as it always is here: respect

I told you on your profile, remove it!! Just because you're gonna shoot him in another video game doesn't give you a reason to use that pic! For the 3rd time, don't you know any of the sh*t that went on during the Holocaust!? >_<
