i've just noticed:
the academy forum has about 13500 posts in about 1000 threads
the general forum has about 11000 posts in about 500 threads.

Thats's amazing! the general discussion has with only half the threads almost as much posts as the academy forum!
and here comes the bummer:

the crazy forum has about 10500 posts in about 350 threads! with roughly 150 threads less it has almost as much posts as the general discussion!
and compared to the academy forum, it has with only 33% of the threads 77% of the posts! amazing! the crazy forum is the most efficent of the three big forums! party!

java, right "effiecient" is of course not the right word. more like: how many posts per thread.

i think you can see pretty much of this statistics.
For example, in the academy forum, there are a lot of questions, and a lot of actual things to discuss. however questions are answered fast and in few posts.
in general forum it's way different. here are not as much questions, but, well, "general" things to discuss, lets say if cats are evil or not. theese matters cannot be dicussed in one or two posts, so we have more posts on each thread.
crazy forum of course is just crazy, and people post more to a thread that it's actually needed or reasonable (called spam :P) this way we get an extrem amount of posts for each thread :D

i could go on for hours. you've noticed that the JK2 dicussion is almost empty? interesting isnt it? after all the whole JA is about jk2 and i dont think many peeps visist extern forums to dicuss it there. it is more a sign that jk2 runs out. there are few new things to discuss, its not important anymore. it tends to become less a game and more a chat programm :D
even worse goes for the star wars discussion. but that may be ok, as we students have little influence on SW itself and the JA is pretty far away from actual star wars.

theres alot of spam threads in the crazy forum as well, which means more than half the posts are not important.

I'm not sure what you mean by "efficient" when it comes to discussion forums. I don't know what the significance of this is.

I admit I do find this interesting. Certainly different forums will lead to different styles of expression, and it's nifty to be able to quantify the differences in the forums with some actual statistics. Anybody have a hypothesis for how the numbers would work out if we had, say, a politics forum? Or religion? Or a mod/programming forum?

Again, I'm not sure what, if any significance these statistics have, but it would be interesting to see if these trends for each of the different forums remains more or less constant over time or if they varies wildly. In the former case the numbers could be thought of as a sort of a statistical fingerprint for the different discussion forums--very interesting. If it's the later case they don't mean squat--very uninteresting.
