Is the XWing the ship that the rebels have in the ep4-6: the ship whose wings make an X, right??????

But what is the YWing? The naboo fighter? Or is it the imperial ship from which Vader/the Emperor came out in ep5, and ep6??

very nice info here, all correct ;)

the Y-Wing was the standard alliance fighter, then plans for the X-Wing were stolen from the empire or, from the Kuat Drive Yards, who developed them for the empire, making it the spearhead of rebel operations.

The empire answered with the Tie MK2, or TIE Advanced, which has been constructed after Lord Vaders personal plans - which also had shields and a hyperdrive system - thus making it no real TIE.

Then, the Assault Gunboat was introduced. A Versatile fighter that is suited for rapid sneaky heavy attacks. The Gunboat featured shields and hyperdrive as well.

The Rebels answer was the B-Wing. Constructed by Ackbar, it was the most powerful heavy attack bomber ever.

The empire came up with the TIE Defender - the most powerful and versatile ship of the TIE class. it featured larger solar panels, thus providing power for more weapons and bigger engines. a TIE Defender can at ease outrun a homed missile.
After the struggle in the Empire with Admiral Harkov and the traitor Zaarin, a "mirror" to the Defender had to be built.

This was the missile boat. equipped with a new tech. - the SLAM system - which allowed it to propell the ship with twice the maximum speed for a short amount of time - thus tossing bombs could yield in great damage.

there's a variety of other fighter ships, most of them can be found here: http://frankg.dgne.com/swsv/index.shtml

K-Wings are in the Black Fleet Crisis trilogy.

T-Wings and missile boats are in the games (TIE Fighter, X-Wing vs TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance).

The "B" in B-Wing stands for Blade, since that is what the wing makes when it rotates into attack mode.

In addition to all these ships in the movies the books and games have since introduced us to to:

E-Wings (high speed assault fighters)
K-Wings (Heavy dual-cockpit bombers)
T-Wings (interceptors, not very good)
TIE Raptors (a mix of bombers and interceptor i think)
TIE Defenders (advanced fighter - shit hot!)
Assault Gunboats (The imperials answer to the B-Wing)
Missile Boat (basically four warhead launches with engines and a cockpit attached)

there are loads others but these are the blantantly rebel and imperial ones. Most of the others are also used by mercs and pirates etc.

that's the TIE Fighter. TIE stands for Twin Ion Engines. They are the Empire's standard fighter craft. In Empire Strikes back you see TIE bombers. And in Return of The Jedi you see the TIE interceptor, a newer TIE craft which is faster than the TIE Fighter and having 4 lasers as opposed to the fighter's 2. Also the original intent of the B-Wing was to replace the Y-Wing.

There are X-wings, A-wings. B-wings and Y-wings in the rebel fleet. The X wing is the most famous kind, shaped like an X, with an average attack, defense and speed.

The Y wing is...well, you can see it in EP4, during the run on the Death Star. Gold Squadron (originally assigned to the trench run, but gets wiped out) flew Y-wings. They are little yellow and white craft with two engines at the back. Y-wings are bomber craft.

A-wings are speed craft, meant for hit-and-run strikes. They can be devastating amongst TIE-squadrons.

B-wings are buit mainly for attacking capital ships, but have a decent dogfight survival rate too.

There you have it.
