ok... is there a way to do what Palpatine did to Luke... yup; the lightning stuff...

and i mean in RL... can we do it? if yes how? can we electrify the human body in a different way than a metal and then create the lightning between those 2?

Well I saw this on TV one time and this girl had basically a chain-mail glove on one hand and the onther on a giant Van De Graff Generator (machine that generates static electricity) and she could zap anything if she pointed at it with her finger as long as it was like a metre away or sumfin. But it just burst into flames so I don't suggest that you use this because who ever you electrified would MELT!

Heh its funny..

The original reason the robots needed humans in the matrix was to use our brainpower for distribued computing (like seti@home or a big assed beowulf cluster). Someone along the way thought that was too much for Joe Q. Sixpack to comprehend so they made up this VERY stupid idea of a big human battery.

The costs in taking care of a human are far greater than any body heat it may produce. The robots shyould be losing power by the terawatt with all the human batteries they got caged up feeding/maintaining.

Why should our government send our soldiers to foreign soil to protect freedom of speech, when our freedom of speech is being taking away everyday by the same government.

The human body is not run by electricity. It _can_ be used to generate electricity, however. The heart of human power is the oxidation-reduction reaction. It's a popular myth that neurons transmit their signals electrically. The inter-neuron signals are chemical. Intra-neuron impulses are an electrical process, but it's nothing like electrical flow through your phone line as some people imagine. It's been a while since I studied this stuff, but as I recall it has something to do with ions moving in lock-step as their charges change.

The Matrix was utterly preposterous. The guys who wrote that had no clue about conservation of energy. Where did they get the energy to grow food for all the humans? Whatever source they used, they lost a lot of energy in the process of getting it indirectly through first the plants and then the humans. They could have used whatever energy source it was directly.

Tesla coils rule! They were used for lots of cool effects in old B&W sci-fi movies. The lower-powered ones do not require you to wear protective gear and are still quite spectacular, but those who've tried it say that it is _very_ unpleasant.

i saw this dude on tv who constructed the biggest tesla coil on earth and used it simply for show. he wore this special suit and super rubber shoes and simply stood beside it. huge lightning bolts came out of the thing hitting him all over. so i guess it can be done but if you don't want to die you better be wearing some good insulating stuff!

The human body is run by electricity. You're basically a big bioelectric fuel cell. What they speak of in the matrix about using humans as a fuel source is quite possible.

Of course. About 300 Americans every year get struck by lightning.

When we speak of things that conduct electricity and things that do not, remember this: _everything_ conducts electricity. Some things conduct it well (low resistance), and other things conduct it badly (high resistance). Those things we call insulators simply have very high resistance.

Fencer: do tell :)

All you need to do is build an opposite charge on each person.. and somehow do this without killing them. :) I suppose if you wore a rubber suit or glove and wore copper over it (with points at the ends of the fingertips), charged it, had your target do the same thing then you may get a cool lightning blast if the charge is enough. And it wouldnt really be more than a big spark unless you were constantly charging yourselves which would require batteries and stuff.

It can be done I think. If you make sure the 2 ppl are different of charge. One way is for 1 someone to touch a negative energy source and the other a positive source, but without being killed of coarse. You can change the air substance to make the release of the charge quicker so you don't have to touch the other one. But more then one little spark will be impossible unless you want both humans to get totally burnt in the process.

I find the easiest way to use force lightning on someone is to quickly rub my shoes on a nylon carpet to build up a nice static charge then then tounch someone on a "sensitive" spot!
