Ok Here's a post with some usefull links. I will keep updating this as needed.

If you don't know about this site and you are a Windows User you need to know about this. This site will patch your os with any of the bugs in any Windows OS.
http://www.windowsupdate.com

A good piece of software to have. This will scan your computer for any kind of spyware that any freeware or shareware program that you download and install.
http://www.lavasoftusa.com or you can try spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
*NOTE* Don't have both installed or they will say each other is spyware. I like spybot better.

A good free anti-virus program.. If you don't have a anti-virus I recommend you do.
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php

This site is good for information on ISP's(Internet Service Providers). It alos has a great little toolset for testing your internet connection and the forums are helpful for tweaking your pc to get the most out of your connection.
http://www.broadbandreports.com

Do you have windows XP or 2000 and a great video card? Seem to be stuck at about 60FPS, even though you say like com_maxfps 120? Simple fix http://www.ryanmh.com/files/reforce.zip is a fix for a Windows Bug that locks your frame rate at 60 fps when you can get higher. All you do is unzip that run it, click auto populate, hit Apply and reboot and boom FPS allover the place :)

Ulic,

If you still have the files, there may be an option for you to recover them. Like any encryption system, (other than one-time-pads, but thats another story), you CAN recover files that have been encrypted without the original key.
Problem is, it usually takes quite some time to work out what key to use by brute force methods.
Luckily there are some cool progz that can use all manner of clever stuff to shorten the length required to get your files back.

Check out http://www.crackpassword.com/products/prs/otherms/efs/

It has a 30day trial, and costs $99 to buy outright, so give it a go and if it looks like it'll do the job, you can consider whether your lost files are worth the $99 recovery fee.

PS.
SaberWeildinKow ,
I put all my demo's in the :
D:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars JK II Jedi Outcast\GameData\base\demos
folder. The other thing to consider is what version of the game created the demo. 1.04 can only view demos created by 1.04. You can tell the difference by the file extensions used :
.dm_16 is version 1.04 of the game, anything else isnt.

Good luck all

regards

D@rth: Try getting some newer video drivers from either windows update or the manufactures website.

Garaos: If your running XP/2k go to your Control Panel->Sound and Devices->Sounds tab and scroll down untill you see Start Windows or something to that effect. If you run 98/ME (not to sure about ME.) Still go to ur control panel but look for Sounds, and again Scroll down for Start Windows and choose your sound :)

Saber: I have no clue I have never recorded a Demo, if there is anyone else who knows please reply :)

Ulic: I had the same problem once too, and i have some bad news I did research and from what I found out there is no way to get those back, Every time you install XP it generates a encryption key that will be used system wide, and the only way I believe, to get them back is if you knew they key, and added it to some encryption list hidden deep in the OS.

Well, here is my challenging question:

In Windows XP Pro, you have the option of encrypting individual files. This is accessible in the file properties menu, and you must have NTFS file system. This turns the text label of the file green.

You following me? Know how to encrypt the files?

OK. Now for the problem.

I had to reinstall Windows XP Pro in order to fix a problem. Obviously, I wanted to keep the files that I had encrypted (if you can't tell, it was important stuff). So I moved them to my second hard drive, reinstalled Windows, everything cool.

Except...I get an "access is denied" for my encrypted files now, and cannot decrypt them.

Any ideas how I gain back access to the files Windows encrypted for me?

well if she cant get the thing to ask if she wants to save the download thats an easy fix:

Before you download, make sure that the "Confirm open after download" option is selected. To verify this:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click Folder Options.

3. Click the File Types tab.

4. Scroll down to and click the .zip extension.

5. Click Advanced.

6. Verify that "Confirm open after download" is selected.

You can also try Click the Restore Defaults in Internet Explorer.
Tools->Internet Options->Advanced Tab->Restore Defaults button.

Tell her that she can try to delete that Temp folder of all its contents, she can also go up to Start->Program Files->Accessories->System Tools->Disk Cleanup and run that it will clean the storage cached files on the system that are not important. That might help

Yeah its a problem with any file she tries to download. She gets the error message immediately, no choice to open or save to disk. She's on a laptop running windows xp.

I could have sworn that someone else had a similar problem a long time ago about downloading skins and maps here.

"c:\DOCUME~1\JENNIF~1\LOCALS~1\TEMP\coz7tb3d.exe could not be saved because the source file could not be read .. I get that every time i try to download something"

Any clue on what she can do to fix that?

Thanx Orion for the tip! And C1.4 too;).

My question actually was, out of the two (upgrade memory or vid card) which would you recommend? Money is a BIG issue, so I can only upgrade one or the other.

So, which one? Adding another 256MB of RDRAM would run me about $150 and adding the Radeon would cost me over $300. I still also need to pick up my copy of JK:JA too!:) I'm kinda leaning towards upping the memory, only bcuz of the $$$ issue.

Thanx again!

OK. Time for a long post to answer questions:

First:

Sniya: You can try to take apart the keyboard but, I would use that as a last resort. You can possibly get some compressed air to get some stuff out. But a really good tip is to take ur keyboard turn it upside down and hit a corner on a flat surface to get any of loose dust, hair or food crumbs out from under it. Hope that helps;

Next:
SaberWeildingKow:
Try http://www.broadbandreports.com there forums have a section for broadband tweaking. I believe its under the software section but you should be able to find it. They are really good and can probably give out links for windows 2k tweaking guides.

Next:
Hector: haha :P

Next:
underhill: good idea i'll talk to DJ about it.

Next:
Smily: YAY U RULE!!!!!!!

Gentleman Loser: Cool thanks :)

Hi SaberWeildinKow,
Hope Orion doesnt mind me helping out with your query, but cable networks are kind of my speciality.
The prob with lag is it can be caused by about a billion things, the trick is ruling out what isnt causing the prob 1st.
1) If you are running any kind of peer to peer/file sharing software (kazaa/morpheus etc), then either make sure you disable sharing with others, or close it down and make sure it doesnt load again on windows bootup. The cable modem upstream can become quickly saturated which will cripple your connection.
2) Windows 2k and XP are essentially auto-tuning when it comes to TCP/IP. Unless you have manually changed any tcp/ip settings in the past. Head over to www.dslreports.com and run the tweak tester they have there. IT'll test ur connection and let u know what, if anything could be tuned.
3) How are your download speeds ? Are they much slower than they should be ? What kind of ping times are you getting to local servers? (try going to a command prompt and pinging your ISP's homepage.)
4) If probs persist and your pings are poor, try running some traceroutes. Again u need to goto a command prmpt, then type:
tracert ww.yourisp.com > C:\test.txt
This will send your trace results to a file called trace.txt on your C: drive's root directory. Copy and paste the contents of that file, and post it up here. From that I can usually tell where any network problems lie.

If you need any help with the above stuff, let us know!

Regards
GL

PS
Sniya, if it really is a load of hair in your keyboard, then you can try using a vacuum cleaner with the upholstry cleaning attachment to remove the hair. If that doesnt work, you'll need to gently prise off some of the keys to get at the stuff underneath. Just make sure you cup a hand over the key you're prising off as some keyboards have springs under the keys that tend to fly off when the key is removed.
On the other hand, if it's just general muck under the keys, then take the keyboard to the bathroom/kitchen sink, and use an antistatic foaming cleanser (e.g Noboclean) to clean it. Dont be shy about soaking the keyboard, just make sure you dont use anything with water in it. And make very sure you let the keyboard dry overnight in a warm place before using it again.
