Java, I agree with you that they should finish their job in Iraq, but the USA must have peace with the leader that the Iraqi ppl choose. Even if it's a man that the US doesn't like. I just about have enough faith in America that they won't solve the election project by "scaring off" ppl that they don't like in the elections. But before they "help out" more ppl maybe they should think very hard about their own country, the US is a walking time-bomb. millions of ppl living at the standard of the avarage Zimbabwean is something you have to be VERY carefull with. After Iraq, US needs to lay off from other country's, that will give them time to maybe become a bit more trusted again. Even if it's not the will of the US, enormous amounts of goverments seriously doubt the motives of the US. So maybe Bush may want his next war against terrorism in his own land. Because if he spends the same amount of money into the poor ppl as in the war against Iraq, the problem will soon be fixed. Maybe I have a very childish vision of things, but I try to be free of prejudices although I don't like the US goverment at all. _______________ Personal sleepness-nights-supporter of Virtue. Have you looked into how much we spent, in inflation-adjusted dollars, rebuilding Japan and Germany after WWII? The forces of democracy are under direct attack by terrorists in Iraq, not just U.S. troops but plenty of Iraqi civilians who simply want to build a society free of tyranny are coming under attack. Some of the terrorists are Saddam loyalists, but many are coming from Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere--often with the tacit approval of "moderate" regimes who claim to be on our side against terrorism. This is no time to compromise. After WWI we tried letting Germany go to hell, and we got Hitler. After WWII we spent megabucks and years rebuilding, not just the nation's infrastructure but helping to rebuild democracy. For that we got a staunch ally--even if relations have been rocky of late--and a powerhouse trading partner. If we abandon Iraq before our work is finished, the Wahabists will take over, and we'll get another Hitler. Whether we stand firm or go wobbly, either way we send a powerful message to the radicals. The only question is which message to send, the message that we can be intimidated or the message that we can't. It would be cruel to abandon the Iraqi people in their hour of need, especially after so many of them have risked violent reprisal to help our forces locate the remnants of Saddam's regime. We can't compromise in the war on terror. We just can't. _______________ My signature is only one line. You're welcome. |
