Short and sweet right here. All i'll say is that religion, culture, or anything like that, is NOT an excuse for a blatant, savage murder. Of all things, honor? Give me a break. ok, from my limited readings in koran (the holy muslim book) and from a several classes i have learned some intersting things about how their society is technically supposed to work. origianlly any one other than chritian or jews who did not immediatly convert were to be killed. moreover, anyone who attempts to convert a muslim to any other religion is to be killed, and if anyone succedes both the convert and the converter are to be killed. if this guy takes his religious book seriously to him killing his daughter saved her soul and (although im not sure about this) scored him some points in the afterlife as well. here is the shocking part: is this sick? that depends on how important freedom of religion is. and how important in ones personal and social life one holds religion. and how litteraly one believes religious texts should be taken. for example, in the bible there is a passage that says if your eye causes you to sin cut it ouy because it is better to go to heaven without an eye than to have two eyes and burn in hell for eternit. if everyone took that litteraly christians around the world would be tearing their eyes, arms, etc. to peices. this would have obvious negative side effects especially for airplane pilots, athleats, construction workers etc. and how could one hang out with the buddies when they look like a walking cornpicker injury? but what about the ten commandments, or the "golden rule?" or the 4 pilars of islam? if we "interperate" those much of the good things that religion brings us will be lost. unfortunaly the only solution i can see is to limit, drastically, the number of tolerated religions. but this has countless problems of its own. final though: i detest such killing and people like the man in this article sicken me. although i will admit that it makes me regret being a human as it means i too may be capable of such horrible acts, i also try to hold onto the hope that if we are both human, maybe people like him can learn not to epress their belifes through violence. lastly, we must be rational hopefully this little unorganized and off-the-cuff post has given some of the more easily provoked members time to cool down and think (nothing is solved through hissing and spiting, just ask my cat) and the rest of you i hope it fuled the flame of thought. |

okay most major religions do not believe in violence to members of their own community, but no matter how hard you try you will always get some hardcore religious guy thinking that people must be turned. Religion causes more problems then it solves, tho it pains me to say it as i am a religious person. the majority of wars are about religion. On the news yesterday they talk about a lady who was sent to taken to jail but didn't bother telling anyone about her 2 year old at home. The little girl survived 19 days alone in the house and had pulled her little bathtub infront of the tv and was naked and in the fetal position when they found her. I have a 3 year old daughter and I can't imagine her being able to survive for 19 days when she was 2.
