In FF7-2 Midgar is destroyed at least more than it was on the ending of FF7, suposely Sephiroth was dead too but he reappears.... Aeris is DEFINITELY dead...unless they do some screwy thing with it. Killing Aeris was the best thing in ANY FF game. I liked her, but it actually made you think of the possibility of death within the game. It was no longer 'well, they never kill the characters off in games' for me for a while after... Hope 'we' get to go back to some of the other locations...I see the cathedral and Midgar (??) in the film, but I wanna see them on the big gun wreckage... Nobody was killed by the lifestream. It simply stopped meteor from wounding the planet, it didn't kill anyone. Seeing as how the lifestream simply is a place where life energy is stored, I don't think it has the power to kill anyone...
