Thats right, today is the sunday of the thanksgiving weekend.... so, Happy thanksgiving everybody! Now, some of you will say "But no, thanksgiving is not for a few weeks yet... Vaughn, this should be in the crazy forum" But no! today is the canadian thanksgiving weekendday. Everyone knows the story of the first Thanksgiving in the New World: how a group of English settlers who sailed to America on the MAYFLOWER gathered in the fall of 1621 to celebrate the bountiful harvest in their Massachusetts colony. Although a much-mythologized tale, its essential outline is true - except for the part about being first. Forty-three years earlier, on a tiny, windswept island in the Canadian Artic, a group of illstarred English sailors who survived a stormy Atlantic crossing knelt in prayer on a desolate shore 5,000 kilometers from home. At the urging of Martin Frobisher, learder of the 1578 expedition, and guided by a firey ship's preacher named Robert Wolfall, 100 or more men gathered to give thanks for their deleverance from death, then devoured hearty meals of salt beef, biscuits and peas.
