Hi all. As some of you know (or should do  ) I am currently doing coaching course for badminton (to coach, not be coached, and the sport not the place  ).As practice, I'll answer any and all questions about badminton you have never wanted to ask. So there you go...I can tell you now that a shuttlecock can decelerate quite quickly - it is HIGHLY unlikely that anyone would be hit by the shuttle at even half that speed. And that's a international level... The order of speed of shots on impact TENDS to be: Forehand smash Round-the-head smash Forehand net kill Backhand net kill Backhand smash Forehand clear Round-the-head clear Forehand drive Backhand drive Forehand fast drop Round-the-head fast drop Backhand fast drop Forehand slow drop Backhand slow drop Backhand net shot Forehand net shot Though it really depends on the players. LOL - shuttlecock is one cool word you can seem like you're swearing like a sailor mid-game, and all your doing is messing with the way you say shuttlecock 200mph...hmmm... I don't think so, 3th. I don't have any stats to hand, but I'm pretty certain the structure of a feather shuttle (faster than a plastic at top level) simply cannot take that kind of force. A feather shuttle can be almost destroyed (exaggeration, lol) in a single rally. LOL - Well, don't hold back, boys....! Why play? It's a great sport It requires and develops almost all kinds of fitness and strength. Speed? Sure. Flexibility? Definitely. Agility? Absolutely.But more than that, it requires a degree of strategic consideration not unlike JO/JA. It is almost impossible to win through brute strength, or a single shot. How do you play....eek! Think tennis, for starters. Now, first replace the ball with a rounded piece of cork about 4cm diameter, to which is attached at least 12 feathers, making a V shape with the cork being the apex of the V. Now, replace the rackets with lighter and thinner versions. Much lighter.... OK, now raise the net to about head height. You're nearly there! The scoring works differently. You can only score on your own serve (or your team's, in doubles). No taking turn for serves either...when you win a rally on your opponents serve, you lose the service, not the point.
