Lying, Plo? He's not lying. Since there is no longer any organized fighting force in Iraq, military operations have, in fact, ceased. We're not seeing any formal resistance, just a bunch of guerrillas trying to blow up as much as they can before they go down. And, in case you haven't heard, we have found video tapes of Saddam loyalists beating political enemies of the Baath party. You make it sound as if things were all fine and dandy with Hussein...

@Monty:
Proliferation of Nuclear Arms treaties. Basically, there was no hope of getting countries that already had them to give up their weapons, since nobody trusts anyone else; so we basically made a treaty saying that no new countries could be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons ;)

i the only problem with goin to war over WMD is that US and UK have them, so i think its morally wrong to go to war, yet still carry on building the very thing u dont want someone else to have....thats my only quarrel. no matter wot people say about US and UK being civilised people, all it takes is in the future to get the wrong leader and all hell breaks loose........

And you didn't really expect it to be "end to major conflict" 2 weeks later economy back up and fully functioning 2 weeks after that a new Iraqi Government running things 2 weeks later US forces go home did you? I don't think we spent only a few months helping to rebuild Germany and Japan after WW2. Things might be going a little faster though in Iraq if we weren't shipping oil over to them at the moment. And everyone has heard that right? The U.S. is sending oil to Iraq. Why? Because there are God knows how many over there sabotaging the oil pipelines.

As for the argument "they haven't found any WMD over there". My argument is "so what?" Saddam had them before, they were dismantled since the first Gulf War. And probably the only thing keeping him from making them were all the embargoes on Iraq. Do you think if he were left in power and that if the embargo was lifted that 10 years down the road he wouldn't have had himself another nice collection WMD?

Is it going perfect over there everything according to plan? No of course not, if you think that then I think you're about as naive as the people that say Iraq would be better off with Saddam still in power.

People are going to die and that's terrible, but it will happen.

Side note, how many of you have front-line experience, military or civillian, with this kind of war. Just thought I would throw that out there. ;)

Secondly, the war IS still on. Bush never stated that it was over. In fact, I remember him mentioning that the war on terror would last several years, with no discernable end in sight.

Also, check the reason the soldiers were there in the first place. US forces remain in Iraq to help with reconstruction and getting the Iraqi people back up on thier feet.

Just my two cents.

Oil is one of the biggest problems. What the world needs is to start converting over to renewable energies. Solar, wind, geo-thermic, etc. The problem with renewable energies? Not economical enough. The huge energy corporations are too afraid to lose a few bucks on service which is long-term more reliable. Fortunately renewable energy technologies are making great strides, especially solar, such that within a decade they really will be viable solutions. :) Well... Hopefully. Stupid greedy CEO-types. :(

Yes, true, we go around looking for oil assets.

However, the oil assets in Iraq do not directly benefit the US. We get our oil from Venezuela. So why did prices rise because of the war? Well, it was because of the General Strike in Venezuela, that just happened to occur semi-simultaneously? But what did the journalists say? It was because of the war. Damn journalists.

Anyways, the benifit to Iraqi oil is that we REALLY have Western Europe, China, and Japan by the gonads. They rely on such oil more than us. Really, if we wanted to go after China or Norht Korea, we could shut down the military by closing off their oil. It is a bargaining chip, a huge one.

Also, on the WMD aspect. There are plenty of documents linking Iraq to WMD. However, most WMD is not anything plainly obvious. Aluminum tubes? Not WMD? However, they are used in a centrifuge to refine Uranium into Weapons-grade uranium. And we found such aluminum tubes?

You can make anthrax with a home beer brewing kit, or more sophisticated lab equipment. I live 2 miles from a potenial WMD production facility, a.k.a, a HOSPITAL. So then, if we find such equipment, is it to brew beer, medical research, or for WMD? And the journalists say? Hmmm? WHAT DO THE JOURNALIST BITCHES SAY, HUH?

See my point? Break open something worth reading. Hmm. Try Gertz, and his book "Breakdown". Should be interesting. Numerous declassified materials in the appendix. Start there, learn how much journalists suck.

Why should our government send our soldiers to foreign soil to protect freedom of speech, when our freedom of speech is being taking away everyday by the same government.

Ulic is right. The journalists tend to focus on the bad. While i think our president is a moron. He's a tool. He's an grade a jumbo idiot who shouldn't be allowed to manage a mcdonalds, much less a country. Anyways while he's dumb removing saddam hussein had to be done. Of course he doesnt have WMD's. He was a tyrannical ruler with a family from the 9th level of hell. I'm glad he's out of there. Now if only we could wrap this whole affair up I'll be happy.

Either do it or dont. Leave and let the Iraqi's try to govern themselves or get the UN (good luck with that, President "i hate internationalism";) to help out rebuild the damn place. Send in the engineers, the troops, whoever. Just freaking do it.

Good call. Why bother whith journalistic integrity when you can use sensationalism instead.

And Ulic Qel-Droma: I totally agree. Bush should be denounced as a war criminal. The unfortunate thing is that the US somehow feels that it should be above international laws that everyone else are held accountable to. There are literally dozens of americans wanted by the Hague (such as Henry Kissinger), but the US refuses to adhere to international laws. In fact (I heard this from a reliable source, but I'm still hoping it's not true. if you know, please post) I understand US congress went so far as to pass a bill which makes it allowable to take military action against the Hague in the event an American is captured and put on trial, including but not limited to a military invasion. I fucking hate my country. We're such a collective bunch of holier-than-thou assholes. It really is incredible that the douche-bags we elect haven't already started world war 3.

No no. The war is still on. Bush just called that it was an end of "Major military operations". Although the point has to be made that more died AFTER that point than before it.

OK, just to be clear, if you REALLY want to understand what is going on out there....

DON'T LISTEN TO THE FUCKING JOURNALISTS!!!!

I'm sorry, but as a Political Science Major, 1.5 months from graduation, I have made journalists my sworn enemy. They want a STORY, not the TRUTH. I'm not even going to get into it. Go read "Journal Of Conflict REsolution", a publication by Analysts, which is peer-reviewed, etc. Or other journals like it. Things that have STATISTICS, chi squares, coefficients, etc. THEN you will get the true stories from there.

Just two weeks ago I went to hear a general speak on the situation. As of that moment, we were still at war, but there was an end to "major military operations."

But I'm not getting into it. There are opinions, there are the journalism crap for stories that are slung around. If someone crack open a peer-reviewed journal and finds evidence to support their point (and I KNOW you can), then I will have more respect for the argument.

I just encourage arguments that are drawn from more than "the news". JOURNALISTS SUCK.

So, that's my input thus far.

I still think Bush should be arrested by the International Tribunal of Warcrimes in The Hague (btw not acknowledged by the US because they know they're guilty).
But now they're in Iraq, it's their job to build it up. Of course with international help, controlled by the UN.

The war is still there and the avarage number of terrorist attacks on american troops is 30 a day now. Seriously, is bush blind or something?

No no, of course it's not war. The war is over. Thanks to George W's fantastic leadership the war only lasted a few short weeks in which every single iraqi who disaproved of the US invasion was imprisoned or killed in action. Nope, George W fought a perfect war with no casualties on the US side and now everybody in Iraq is living the American dream with no guns in the streets, 2.5 children, and the white picket fence. Isn't George W. a wonderful man? Look how quickly he took care of the "threat to our nation." No no, look at his efficiency in the war, not the economy! Wow! We should actually elect him president this time! On to North Korea! :)

 Words fail to adequately describe how wretched and dispicable the Bush administration is.

It was never pretty.

In my opinion, the US should never have sent troops to Iraq. Doing what they did was a crime against humanity.

It's sad that so many people are suffering.
